Cops Make Sex Sting At Local Department Store

Store Cooperates In Investigation

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia police say 16 people are arrested in an undercover sting at a Center City department store.

The men were arrested at the Strawbridge's at Eight and Market Streets.

 

Police said they made the arrests after store employees reported a problem in the second floor men's bathroom.

 

"We believe that from various chat rooms on the Internet and other means that men just knew that that's where you go to either expose yourself or to engage in some type of consensual activity," said Sgt. Joseph Lanciano, of the Philadelphia Police Department.

 

"But it was taking place right out in the open in this men's bathroom. Strawbridge's was concerned about that and that's why they reached out to us."

 

The men who were arrested face a series of misdemeanor charges.

 

Police said they could have made more arrests because others seemed to arrive at the men's room, saw what was happening and took off.

That men's room has been notorious since World War II! I remember making pick-ups there in the pre-Stonewall era, and there were occasional arrests made well into the 1970s. I suspect this time some bitchy salesclerk in the Polo section saw an ex-bf go in there too often and decided to make a stink, because Strawbridge's certainly hasn't just become aware of the goings-on now.
