Hey there. Well I guess that it all matters what you are looking for. I went on the Atlantis Carribbean cruise this spring out of Miami and was just hoping to have a chance to be gay and comfortable.

Left the ship after the third day. Did not like it at all. I am not a "scene" kind of guy and it was a poor choice of vacations for me.

Not that they are bad was just like a bath house and circuit partyt on water. If you are a raging circuit queen or live your life in the "scene" then go for it you will have a great time...for me it was a colossal waste of time and money.

Just my experience

Dustin

Homos Homos Everywhere!!! The cruise, for me, was like everything about gay life that I hate. A floating meth charged bath house.

If you enjoy this (and many did) than this is for you. If not, you will hate it. There's nothing relaxing about their cruises.

That being said, this still may be for you. Depends on what you're looking for. Leave your books at home.

I disagree with the negative on Atlantis Cruises. I have been on three of them two in the Carribean and one in the Med. I had a great time on all three because there were every type of gay man and a few lesbians on each ship. People from 20 something to 80 something. Porn stars to retired clergy. IMO there is enough diversity for everyone. If you dont want to go to the Tea Dances don't there are plenty of other things to do on the ship and off when in port. If you want to fuck your brains out you can, if not that is fine too. I think you will have a great time if you let yourself regardless of what you are into.

Hey Dustin,

I was one of those who attended the January Caribbean cruise this year and had the pleasure of meeting you. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy yourself but I think that there were different factors involved.

I think that you have to select the right company (partner or group of friends) with who you're going and have the right mind set in order to enjoy your cruise. It's true that there are so many different activities onboard and ashore allowing everyone to enjoy himself and Richard and his team put a lot of effort in it. However don't go if you don't feel comfortable in a gay crowd.

The February 2006 Atlantis cruise from Buenos Aires to Rio will sail on a smaller ship and advance booking is recommended.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to share their experiences.

I'm not a party boy at all. 64 and really sort of shy and retiring.

No interest in anonymous sex at all. Happy to sit and read my book.

I'd be travelling with a friend but have the option of putting

together a trip sans cruise.

I went on Atlantis Europe cruise and hated it also. The same music beat throbbed through the hallways 24 hours a day. Just one giant party all day, all night. I guess you need to be a circuit boy to really enjoy these cruises.

BA to Rio

I think you are picking a good starting point and a good end point.

However, I have to admit that my own experience as well as the experience of clients of mine in their late 40s/50s (a couple aged 49 and 51) and a client aged 64 was that they did not enjoy the music and felt out of place, even though there were, as DelawareMan indicated, a diveristy of people. By and large, the majority were young (i.e. a smattering of late 20s and a predominance of 30s and then early 40s).

You might enjoy a trip to Argentina and then a flight to Rio and meet up with friends there, or a cruise with a more mixed environment.

Good luck.

I've been on several RSVP cruises and they rank among the best vacations I ever taken, and I've taken some great ones.

I went to one Club Atlantis and was slightly disappoiinted. If I hadn't been with a group of friends, I think I wouldn't have like it very much at all.

On the RSVP cruises I've been on, the age seemed to skew a little older. Their brochures and ads usually show mostly young beauties, but those guys aren't the norm. I'd say the average age is more like mid-30's-40's. There's also one or two older gentlemen who have brought along their own "hired entertainment."

This particular cruise may not be for you. But, Oceana is a wonderful cruise line with some of the best food on the high seas.
