It depends. Are we still talking about The Gates, or have we switched topics to the War in Iraq? :p

At least "The Gates" in Central Park is not a colossal waste of human lives, like Iraq. If one is going to waste time and money, let it be decorative, rather than dangerous.

Yes - we know there was no public money spent ot it - and if you had bothered to read the other posts, you too would know that we know!

 

However, the fact that it was the artist's own funds does not lessen the fact that it was a stupid waste of money that could have done much good if it had been used differently.

 

And one has to question the advisability of the city of NY allowing such an "exhibit" to be erected in the first place. Thank God it is temporary and the beauty of Central Park will only be blotted until the end of Feb.
