Trio is channel 102 in New York, Time Warner Cable.

I would love to see this documentary on the Trio network. I looked up the website and availablity of this channel on my DirecTV satellite. It said it was available on a certain channel number, but when I checked on my t.v. it was not there

 

oh well...not sure why. Any one else having trouble finding this channel? I have never heard of it before

I'm quite sure that RCN does not offer it on their lineup. I was looking at the RCN cable site and their channel listings and didn't see any mention of TRIO.

 

Its unfortunate. 101 Rent Boys is definitely worth seeing.

If anyone misses this um I guess you can loosely call it a documentary you can rent it at your gay friendly video store. I saw this um documentary a year or so ago and it was quite disturbing and I suppose relfects what it is like to hustle on the streets. I wish that there was some glimmer of hope in this production but it is all so depressing. It would have been nice if the makers would have shown that not all hustlers or escorts are tweaked out freaks but oh well.

Yay for TiVo but I'm going to have to agree with Greg on this one. From the trailer alone I dread watching this. Luckily it'll probably be after a day spent with my mother watching Dark Fosse in the form of Chicago. At least I can take the whole day as a guilt trip

Sorry Taz - your best bet is to call your cable provider and ask them. If you have Time Warner then you should have Trio.

Well,I have the (dubious?)honor of having had sex with at least half of the "boys"in the film 101 Rent Boys.And I have(had)a nodding aquaintance with 40% of the others.

The filmmakers used to hang out in front of the now closed Hunters bar in West Hollywood.They would offer $50-$200 to the boys and trannies to tell their stories.I wish they would have consulted some of the regulars(myself included)for we might have provided a few more interesting(and some much more attractive)boys for them to talk to.

This was at the very tail end of the hustling culture on SMB.Yes,there are still a few straglers left-but they are really not worth the gas used cruising SMB(sorry JamesK)Oh what it used to be like in the "good old days"!

Boys were lined up from Fairfax to Vine on SMB!I spent many an hour,many a gallon of gas,and got into a few fender benders cruising from this buffet of boys.

Mind you-I arrived in Los angeles in '95 just as this was already starting to crumble.I have heard from many an "old-timer"about the real glory days from '65-'95 and am sorry I missed all of this.

A few of the fellas in the film still show up at the spotlight from time to time,but it is just not the same.

I agree with Greg that this documentary offers very little in the way of "hope"--but I believe its worth watching for the experience.

 

For me, it was sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing, but always informative. I'd be interested to hear what others think.

P.S. I didn't find 101 too depressing. If you want depressing, try watching either "Body Without Soul" or "Not Angels But Angels" (both by Wiktor Grodecki), which depict teenage hustling in Prague. Neither are the kind of movie that inspires microwave popcorn.

OK, I have to say....

 

I am not very happy with this documentary. Out of the 101 there were maybe about 10-15 that I would consider well rounded human beings. I'm again dissapointed with the media. Frankly, while pieces like this are great to open the eyes to America, their eyes are only open to a small fragment of this culture. We're really not a bunch of uneducated hicks. But I digress....

 

Bigguy, you said you've had or are on speaking terms with most of them....any chance in hell of getting me in contact with Tommy Cruise? Unfortunately he's not even reviewed. I'd like to do fun things with his ass Anyone want to watch? LOL.

IMHO.. The Term Rentboy, taken from the "English" Working Guys really should have been "Hustler" 101. I hope the Rentboy Site doesn't sue for Bad Press. I believe last nite's telecast was the short version; the tape I have is billed as the uncut version and is longer than an hour.

 

Since I watched the tape at least two or more years ago, I don't remember exactly what was left out.

 

If it snows again, I'll be sure to pop it in. (VCR that is).
