I just saw that Star Trek: Enterprise will be cancelled in May, at the end of this season. It will be the first time in 18 years that there won't be some version of Star Trek on air and in new production.

I find I'm not disappointed. I'm something of a Trekker and have been for a long, long time. But I've found the new show to be a big disappointment, full of what felt like missed opportunities and stories that bogged down forever. If you didn't like the Xindi plotline, well, there was nothing else, unlike the former series where there was something new going on.

So I won't miss this one. But I'll hope that Paramount will come to its senses some day and realize just how valuable the franchise can be and produce a new show worthy of the name.

Switch to Stargate-SG1 on the Sci-Fi channel. I think it's a lot better. It's entertaining and humorous, and it deals with a lot of cultural and social issues which the original Star Trek took on. It's also great for technology buffs.

>Dating ? Pon-far would be enough for me ...

Two "r"s:

Pon farr

Episode: TOS 034 - Amok Time

A Vulcan term for their mating cycle.

Every seven years, the adult Vulcan undergoes an extreme and erratic physical and psychological imbalance, which can be fatal if the mating ritual is not carried out.

When Spock underwent Pon farr in 2267, the U.S.S. Enterprise journeyed to Vulcan, where his betrothed mate chose another champion to fight for her — Captain Kirk. Only after McCoy deceived Spock by injecting Kirk with a substance that simulated death did Spock return to his normal, logical demeanor.

Certain agents have been known to accelerate the Pon farr. For example, T'Pol found herself undergoing the Pon farr prematurely after being exposed to foreign microbes on an away mission in 2153.

I too am a HUGE ST fan. AND I am actually happy to hear this! I felt the show was FUCKING AROUND with the time-line too much!! They were doing things that would have effected everything we have come to know in STOS, STNG. STDS9 and STV. OUTRAGEOUS! They were screwing it all up!

I hope the next ST "whatever" is post Nemesis. I want to know what the Voyager crew is doing! I want to know how data's "special" copy is doing with all of Data's downloaded memories. And how is Captain Riker doing? Enterprise was a good idea gone REALLY bad. BUT I would love to get it on with Trip!

I'm also a major Star Trek fan, but UPN is unavailable in my area, so I never did see any of Enterprise. (Well, I did download and watch the pilot, but that's about it.) Seemed okay but not spectacular. My favorite series was Deep Space Nine (Avery Brooks...the guy who played Captain Sisko...rocked) - I've seen all of that. Next Generation (think I've seen all) and Voyager (seen most) were a close second and third. TOS I still haven't seen all of, but it had its moments, and I enjoyed most of the movies. While it's too bad ST is taking a hiatus, from what I've heard about Enterprise, maybe it's needed. I'd like to see them do something again with it someday, though.

As far as great sci-fi, I recently just found my new favorite space series. The new Battlestar Galactica (a reimagining of the original 70's show...but much, much different) is fraking awesome! =oP Now, it is NOT Star Trek (much darker; much less a reliance on technology), but so far it's an AMAZING series. I'm just blown away by some of the things they've done (VERY smart, a dark story, more realistic militarily - similar to an aircraft carrier, realistic physics, and IMO very good actors). I won't go on too long about this series, but check it out if you're so inclined. It's on Sci-Fi Friday's at 10 PM. The mini-series that started it off is also available on DVD now I believe.

I have watched relatively little television in recent years and have seen few episodes of 'Enterprise.' From those I have seen, I have the impression that the characters are not nearly as rich and interesting as those of previous ST versions. Maybe that is why the ratings have been so poor. There has been speculation in the media about its cancellation almost every year it has been on.

This may draw howls of outrage, but I must be honest and say that of all the ST versions on television the only one I have consistently enjoyed is DS9. No other version featured a cast that so thoroughly inhabited their roles and played off each other so perfectly. No other version featured a character like the rascally Quark, as opposed to a collection of people so noble and self-sacrificing that they appeared to have stepped off a pedestal. In one of my favorite episodes, three Klingon captains, each featured in a different episode of Classic Trek, were reunited and each was portrayed by the same actor who had played that role on Classic Trek more than 20 years earlier. Can anyone name a television series that has ever done anything like it? On what other show could one look forward to seeing Oscar winners like Louise Fletcher and Oscar nominees like Paul Dooley? I do miss it just a bit. :)

Well observed. DS9's difference started with the physical situation: not dashing off, or struggling to dash back home, but just hanging out by the Wormhole, waiting for whoever drops by. An interstellar Mel's diner.

Another notable-actor treat was Wallace Shawn's recurring role as the Grand Negus, the head Ferengi.

Absolutely agree. The character interaction on DS9 was very interesting, and I remember the episode you speak of. (Though since I haven't seen all of TOS, I didn't realize the same actors reprised their roles - too cool!).

Another favorite of mine is when they went back in time to the TOS Tribbles episode - I'm not sure something quite like that has been done in any other series either.

And another is Far Beyond the Stars (Benny is a writer writing for a sci-fi magazine in the...I dunno...50's/60's...don't know the specific time?). While I loved the core DS9 episodes, some of these very creative and different episodes made it truly special.

The religious overtones and philosophical questions I also enjoyed. It's a different aspect to Trek most series didn't touch.

I'll be quiet now as this thread is mostly about Enterprise, which I know very little about. =oP

No guptasa,

Preach on !!!! I am both thrilled and ashamed that I can follow everyone's posts (unlike the Politics threads...Im fucken lost there!!).

Woodlawn,

I always liked DS9, but we called it Deep 69...I was young...

I dont know if I am just a social servant that is constantly bombarded with politically correct thinking and seeing racists around every corner but I thought I saw some stereotyping of certain characters. My take :

Klingons - I thought that especially cause it was during the 60's that it was interesting that the darkest race was also the most violent and prone to angry outbursts. A very proud race. I always wondered if that was part of their political statement, or just a mistake of their 60's subconscious

Vulcans - always holding their emotions in check, just below the surface ancestor worship, and highly intelligent...moreso than your average human...those eyes made Spock look Asian...coincedence or Asian stereotype

Uhura - now this shit takes the cake !!! That fucken skirt was sooooo short !!! I dont think any other chick on the crew had a shorter skirt...or was it the fact that no one on the crew had that big an ass...even today Nichelle Nichols is till hot. However, you gotta be kidding me with making the black female a glorified receptionist with that ridiculous ear piece

Scotty - didnt this druken Scottsman get wasted on more than one occasion

Chekov - had very stereotypic Russian pride

First interacial kiss, I believe, was Kirk and Uhura. So now Kirk fucked white chicks, black chicks and green chicks (or blue, I cant rememeber)

Adam Smith,

Your pics are fucken great !!!! I dont even save porn on my hard drive (at least for any real period of time), but I have all of your Star Trek pics !! Thanks...

Lastly,

I always wanted to fuck Deanna Troy...she was like the new Uhura to me...her ass and tits were huge and she had no right being in that uniform...I almost shed tears of joy when they had Majel R. play her mother...now there was another hot chick...the young Majel Barrett...I was straight then:-)
