I'd call this terrorism, plain and simple. Seems to be having the desired effect. It obviously shook you up and terrorized you. Sadly, I suspect this is the first of many rounds to be fought with the religious right.

 

The domain jesusanswers.com is some group up in Canada using a group in Orem, Utah to do their name service. I looked at their pages, not obvious if it is really some group (unlikely) or some lone nut. There is also the possibility that the e-mail you received has nothing at all to do with either of these domains and was used at random. (You might not be able to reply to the e-mail, etc.)

 

For starters, is there any chance at all anyone has your real name? My instinct says that all money is green. The hotel really won't care what happens as long as you don't disturb other guests, don't trash the room and don't steal the towels. The local police have better things to do, and aren't very likely to act on an anonymous tip anyway. If the local police don't have your name, they can't very well come see you at the hotel.

 

If you want, drop me an e-mail, I have a couple of other ideas for you on how to test the waters.

 

I don't blame you a bit for being upset. Keep in mind that the person doing this to you *WANTS* to upset you. So, the more upset you get, the more power you give them over you. The more you react to them, the more they have you right where they want you.

If they don't have your real name, calm down, this is probably nothing. If they do have your hotel, you might want to cancel that reservation and make another reservation at a different nearby hotel, just to be on the safe side. Then be careful who you give that information to.

I would suggest that you've given whomever it was exactly what they want with this post, especially if you let them affect your plans.

 

There are certainly trolls lurking on this board who love to harass escorts visiting LA, I've heard of the harassment but have never heard of anything coming of it. Past Hooville LA meetings have also been threatened, probably by the Cupcake boys asshole, and those threats were dismissed quite easily. Realistically think about what they're threatening to do... faxing every hotel/motel in WeHo/Hollywood alone would take hours, and half the hotels might then offer you a discount when you arrived! ;o)

You can't go through life letting this type of person determine what you do or how you regard yourself.

 

When I was in my early 20s I was picked up in one of the sweeps of gays that were common at that time (early 60s). I thought my life was over but it actually turned out to be a positive. I developed a "don't give a damn" attitude for what others thought and have had a happy and prosperous life. I stopped pretending to be straight and went on to become a well respected professional and this episode never came up again.
