The snowstorm that was supposed to start late Saturday night, here in NYC, actually started much earlier in the day.

We're now up to 8 inches (and I'm not using my AOL calculator either) and there appears to be NO end in sight.

I wish the best for all of us northeasterners and hope you fare well.

Thankfully, I made up a tub of beef stew earlier in the week and just finished a large pot of homemade tomatoe sauce. I'm fixed as far as dinner goes.

So now, any ideas on where I find dick for dessert?

Seriously, if any of you know of someone who needs help, during this blizzard, in the immediate NYC area, let me know. I'm pretty sure I can oblige.

Stay warm, stay safe, but please stay OUT of the snow. Its pretty out there, but not worth risking.

Warmest Regards,

Thought you guys up North knew how to deal with snow. We got a foot just before Christmas, our biggest snow in 10 years, and we still kept the airport open. Of Course if you connected thru Cincy with Comair that was a different story.

Here's a message Steven Draker posted in the Escort Travel section:

Due to a heavy snowstorm in New York I had a major cancellation tonight, Saturday, January 22nd. If anyone is interested I am discounting my rate only for tonight. The best way to reach me is to call my cell number 917-951-4209

If I were in NYC, I'd call him immediately!!

KY Top, this is NYC....maybe we CAN and maybe we CAN'T deal with the snow. Lord knows we've dealt with enough other stuff.

My posting was ONLY designed to see if anyone needed help. Nothing more, nothing less.

Seems like the greatest city in the world (NYC) is being smacked around by the greatest lady in the world (Mother Nature).

SO, if YOU need help......let me know.

P.S. Our airports, by the way, all three of them, are STILL open; flights are delayed, but with or without snow, that's almost always the case at Newark. GO figure.

Thanks for the advice, OneFinger. I think Steven is a great guy, but not what I am looking for, even with discounted rates.

Although if he needs a place to stay and a hot meal, then you (OR HE) let me know.

I don't discriminate when it comes to help.

But as far as desires go, would be much better if Vincent_Michael or Greg from Seattle were singularly (or both) stuck here.

Just my choice. BUT damn, what a dessert that would turn out to be.

Does anyone do snowballs anymore ?

Greg, when I want you and need you most, you persist in staying on the West Coast.

Believe it or not, as I continued to watch the snow ravaging around us, YOU are one of the guys I thought about that might be nice to hug and cuddle with. A white blizzard doesn't always have to be about snow. Get my drift (no pun intended) kid ?

Hope all is well with you, Seattle boy !

Most affectionate regards, G Kid

No offense intented. Just everytime we get a snow down here, seems people from up north make fun of us and brag about how a foot of snow doesn't even slow them down.

Hope you guys handle it well and Stay Safe.

When I was a kid growing up in Kentucky, schools had to close with a very small amount of snow. Life ground to a halt. Many of the roads in my rural community are the original roads built by early settlers. Since transportation was typically a horse or horse and buggy, roads didn't need curves. Roads were built around property lines and, as such, had many corners instead of curves. Those roads also tend to be very narrow.

Then, when I was about 10, the school district hired a new School Superintendant who was from New York state. He proclaimed he was keeping the schools open during bad weather. Then it snowed. It just a couple of inches, and of course, he wouldn't close the schools. By 7:30 am most of the county's school buses were wrecked, in ditches and at least one was laying on it's side. Schools didn't open that morning, needless to say. And after that, someone else decided when to close schools.

Not surprisingly, we had a new superintendant the next year!

Now I live in Chicago--the city that works! In all but the worse storms, a big snowstorm is just a bit of an inconvenience (unless you park on the streets--that's another story). Of course, there are always a few idiots who drive too fast for conditions and cause accidents. Friday night I sat at my windows high above Lake Shore Drive watching the over-confident drivers in SUV's slam in to the divider wall and other vehicles because they were trying to pass in lanes that weren't completely plowed and salted yet.

I'll never make fun of the South's abilities to handle snow. And frankly, I'll take 15 inches of snow over any amount of ice they get regularly. With ice, there's not a whole lot of difference between 1/16th of an inch and 2 inches, except for the time it takes to melt. You can't walk or drive safely on any amount of it.

I hope this winter stuff going on out there gets it out of its system by Thursday. I'm flying out there Thursday for work, and I've got a hot date lined up for Sunday night. Been waiting for this for over a month. Not the work.....
