I recommend China Air via Taiwan. They are super cheap for the Pacific crossing from LA or SF and the service was very good. Clean, remodeled 747s with excellent cabin crew. Got a RT from SF into Hanoi and out of Saigon for less than $1000. The flight was still agonizing due to their length, but China Air is not a bad choice at all.

Once one gets to Bangkok, everything is affordable--food, hotels, shopping, men. Great place to do Christmas shopping.
