I realize I am behind the curve on most of these films, but hey, at least i am getting there.

Last night I viewed Latter Days which has been written about in another thread here:

Asided from the obvious very good looking men in this piece, the thing that impressed me was the writing and the performances.

This film is a must see for any gay person of faith. While it does show us the world view of condemnation that is so prevalent in our society, it also allows the viewer to navigate an approach to belief that doesn't ride the either/or train of thought.

I enjoyed the film. The DVD contains some extra scenes and a mini documentary on the making of. Also has a commentary, as well as a promotional service announcement for a gay suicide hotline. A short first film by the director is also included that is pretty funny. the premise of this short film is used as the opening set piece for Latter Days (which had one of the hottest guys other than the two leads).

Jack -

I just recently rented and saw this one, too. I have to say that I really enjoyed it, but then I'm a hopeless romantic :+ and a sucker (that, too) for a happy ending.

The second film on last night's program was Circuit. I couldn't finish it, so restarted it this afternoon. The men are uniformly handsome, and plenty of eye candy. Watching the downward spiral of guys caught up in the web of drugs, dance, and depravity (oops, I meant raw sex...but was going for the alliteration) well...it was hard to watch. I mean, I understand how drugs can cause you to lose a hold on reality and in spite of my own battles with addiction years ago, I can relate to the desire to just escape and have fun. But it is awful to watch a close friend go through this.

Can someone bring this old guy up to date? What is K or special K? And what is G?

>... What is K or special K? And what is G?

K or Special K is slang for Ketamine. According to the Parenting Teens website:

Slang or Street Names: Special K, K, Vitamin K, Cat Valiums Ketamine is an injectable anesthetic that has been approved for both human and animal use in medical settings since 1970. About 90 percent of the ketamine legally sold today is intended for veterinary use.

I believe G stands for Gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB). According to a government website:

Gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is a powerful, rapidly acting central nervous system depressant. It was first synthesized in the 1920s and was under development as an anesthetic agent in the 1960s. GHB is produced naturally by the body in small amounts but its physiological function is unclear.

GHB was sold in health food stores as a performance enhancing additive in bodybuilding formulas until the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned it in 1990. It is currently marketed in some European countries as an adjunct to anesthesia. GHB is abused for its ability to produce euphoric and hallucinogenic states and for its alleged function as a growth hormone that releases agents to stimulate muscle growth. GHB became a Schedule I Controlled Substance in March 2000.

BTW, glad you like the movie Latter Days. I'm anxious to see more work by the writer/director C. Jay Cox. (Boy, did he invent a very interesting name for himself.)

Regarding the alphabet drugs: K is Ketamine (aka cat tranquilizer) and G is for GHB (like drinking a small dose of floor cleaner.)

I couldn't finish watching "Circuit" simply because it was a terrible movie. Sure, the boys were pretty, but it preached a grossly oversimplified message about the perils of drug use. "When Boys Fly" is marginally better when it comes to portraying the circuit-world, IMO.

I think both "Sordid Lives" and "Girls Will Be Girls" make for good Gay Movie Nights.

I just bought "A Touch of Pink" today but haven't watched it yet. Any advance reviews on this one?

I was stuck watching Circuit at outfest a few years ago.I was the guest of Paul"boom boom boom"Lekakis (who had a small bit in the film)and the director (Craig Scheaffer?)was in the audience at the DGA.

I thought the film was disgraceful, both technically and the messege that came across from it.

I notice he(Sheaffer) has not had a film released since.
