I watched a film called O Fantasma (the Phantom) tonight and I am now as horny as hell. Cripes! I gotta start taking this kind of thing into account when I order these damn videos from Netflix.

This film got under my skin. The kid who stars in it was 18 at the time the film was shot. It is subtitled, and while there is lots of skin, it's the first time I have seen real blow job in a film like this.

Anyway, someone needs to find me a man who can get in his boat and paddle over to my place. I'm in SoCal where it never stops raining. those damned Eagles lied.

Any other insight into the film other than the great BJ and lots of skin? Is the story line any good? Haven't heard of the film but you have peaked my interest!

Be careful there in So Cal. Stay a distance from the mountains. The news reels of the mudslides look awful. Soon, I fear, our Vancouver neighbors will be donating their services to aid the victims of the floods in Southern California.

Seriously, be careful and stay well!

Thanks BG for pointing to the previous thread. I didn't recall reading it before. The responses to the film were all over the map as I would expect.

For films like these (foreign, subtitled, gay themed,) you put aside a few of the expectations of a complete work because the genre is really still in it's infancy as filmmakers push the boundaries of what moviegoers will accept.

This film got under my skin for several reasons:

The leading actor has not just a look that can cause wood, but he really gets into the characterization that the director seemed to want.

Dogs play a pivotal, metaphorical part in this film. The film begins with a flash forward sequence involving fetish sex, as a doberman waits impatiently outside the bedroom door wanting to see (or protect?) his master who is being screwed by the ghost in black latex.

The scene then moves to a flashback establishing the rapport that the young man has with the dog kept by the guys at his workplace. Even this opening sequence clearly establishes the kid's identification with the feral in himself.

As the film progresses, this kid finds it easier to deal with his burgeoning sex drive and sexual identity by acting it out as a dog might, through smell, taste, tongue. The sexual encounters all have a fetish kind of feel to them.

It is great art? Dunno. Does it titillate? For me it did. Does the movie move at a slow pace? Yes at times, but always within the parameters of the film's purpose, so I can let that slide. For those who think the movie moves too slowly and want to fast forward, the DVD includes a special feature where the producers have thoughtfully placed all of the sexual sequences in a category called eye candy.

I guess the reason it sticks with me, is that it was a totally new take on an age old issue of coming to a point of sexual awareness.

The ending is not at all fulfilling in a typical Hollywood manner, but then how could it be? This kid makes the mistake of reducing all of his longing to a fantasy level, and we all know that is a path to the dark side.

I thought it was a brave film, making strides into new areas of the gay experience, and I am glad I saw it.

I would gladly take the aid of Juan or Matt. if either of the Vancouver guys need directions, I will happily provide them. it's pretty easy really; go past the third raging river and I am the second mud mound on the right (I'll be on the roof).

Today it's pretty nice and I have hopes of the leaks stopping before the next round of storms due on Sunday.

Wow! How insightful...I mean you have dissected the film. Certainly before I view it, i am going to print out your cheat notes so I can more thoroughly appreciate it. If I don't finf myself appreciating it, I'll fast forward to the "eye candy" special section.

Thanks for investing the time in sharing your perspective. You seem like a great person to have dinner with after a show to discuss a flick...probably a bad person to sit next to during the show though...because I might be tempted to engage in a "scene-by-scene" discussion (lol)!

I'm glad Deej advises us that the rain has ceased. I'll be in South CA and AZ in Feb and don't want rain! How did that song go.."It never rains in southern California"??

Like I said, the Eagles lied. It does rain and sometimes it pours. Here's hoping the weather is great for your visit in Feb. Give me a shout and we will take in a show or movie. If you are worried about discussion during the show, I'll bring ear plugs and things will be fine.
