I use SBC (South western Bell Corp) They have good DSL...however some of the new internet providers are going to offer Voice of IP. Anouther thing is Vorizen is going to be offering in a few years the fastest Broadband.

I use Vonage, mostly so I could keep my California number here in Arizona. Gives me no-added-cost access to the old California market, people from CA can call me like it was a local call and the call quality is pretty good. Still, I keep my Qwest (blech!) service so I have a local wired phone for 911 calls and calls in AZ.

These VoIP services are becoming much more reliable. If you have your own DSL or cable service, they're just terrific.

I too use Vonage. It is great. I have local numbers in 5 states and they are all usable wherever I am. When in Thailand or Europe I use them and all my calls to USA and Canada are free. I also like that voice messages go straight to my e-mail box.

Lastly, I added the feature for my PC and have a phone on it and can use my headset in any airport or hotel I travel to.

I have never once had an issue with Vonage and highly recommend them!

..... except when the DSL or cable goes down. :-(

Emergencies are the only reason I keep a wired local line. DSL doesn't go down often, but often enough, and for as much as 24 hours in a whack. (And how do you report a DSL outtage if your phone line is VOIP and the DSL circuit is down? :9 )
