Dozens of community members, many wearing purple, gathered for a ceremony outside the Prince George’s County courthouse in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, to promote Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Attendees were given purple light bulbs, provided by Pepco, and asked to place them in a front porch light or window. Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks revealed some surprising information about the impact of domestic violence on the county's overall crime rate.

"As we've seen, overall violence decline in Prince George’s (County),” Alsobrooks said. “We were surprised to learn so many instances of domestic violence, family violence has remained steady."

Domestic violence is an important issue but let them get their own fucking color.

Purple has long been associated with Gay issues and using that color co-opts its use.

Now for a totally tasteless, politically incorrect comedic aside----perhaps they should use black and blues lights.
