I've never been to Houston, so excuse my ignorance. :*

I'm planning a trip which will take me through there, and I plan to stay one night. I also think I will be flying an escort in a short distance for the afternoon/evening/overnight. }(

I'm looking for suggestions for lodging: something accessible to the airport for both me and the escort, and also accessible to some nightlife for the evening. Is that possible?

Any and all suggestions are very welcome. Thanks! :D

Houston has two airports. I usually assume that if people don't specify which one, then they're going into IAH. Neither of them is very close to any gay nightlife. There are one or two bars close to IAH, but probably the only locals you would see there would be the ones who live up that direction. Your typical Montrose queen wouldn't be caught dead going that far outside of the loop just to go to a bar. Or at least we tease each other that that's so.

The closest hotel to the Montrose (our gay area) that I can think of is a lage Best Western hotel (not a motel, I'd say) on Dallas. It is just off of the highway and probably not as expensive as the downtown hotels (which are a bit farther away from the highway and on the other side). I haven't been inside the Best Western, but many members of my Mardi Gras Krewe stay there on the night of the Ball each year. It is right across the street from our home bay, Keys West, a sing along piano bar. And within an easy cab drive from the main concentration of gay bars.

Remember that we are a Western city and have grown out, not up. You would probably do well to rent a car from the airport. It's at least a $25 cab drive from IAH to downtown. Maverick has been known to drive people to and from the airport for $20 each way. It's mostly our clients and acquaintances, but if you are interested email me and I'll forward it to him.

The Holiday Inn select located on 59S and Kirby is a great economical place to stay. Also has room service. A 10 minute drive to Montrose.

Michael...have you been gallavanting in Houston?????

OK. I was half asleep, I guess, and didn't even think about B&Bs. The best of these is indeed The Lovett Inn. I, too, would recommend them heartily. And if you're a jogger, or something, you would probably find that it's withing walking distance of the vast majority of the gay locations.

Thanks, Chuck, I had forgotten that I did that. Easy to forget because I've learned from things about Houston from your posts since then. (Verse to Getting to Know You goes here.)
