I rented Latter Days. Turned out to be a pretty good movie well acted by Wes Ramsey and Aaron (don't know his real name). I must admit, I am now in love with a Mormon boy. Did not realise what a good movie it was till they met up at the end in the restaurant - one thinking the other was dead. I also admit I then shed a tear.

I thought 'Latter Days' was a fine feel-good film, if not very deep. Ranked against such similar gay films as 'Trick' or 'The Next Best Thing,' it holds its own. Now I just watched a great film entitled 'AKA' which I thought was wonderful. It's kind of a gay 'Talented Mr Ripley,' with palpable sexual tension, pretty good suspense, and a cast that's very easy on the eyes. Only after watching the DVD did I discovered that you can watch it in a triptych mode (three split screens with different camera angles), and I wish I had.

Other gay-themed films I've loved are 'Bound,' 'Gods and Monsters,' 'The Opposite of Sex,' and 'Ma Vie en Rose' (more gender-questioning than gay, but good enough to plug at any chance).

Latter Days was one of the highlights of my 2004-- a film with a profound spiritual message bound to have an affect on anyone with a strong religious backgroud. I own the DVD and the CD soundtrack to keep it fresh in my mind. I have yet to ask my Mormon relatives about it yet... recommended for anyone with any spiritual doubts/struggle going on!

Peace,

Bought the DVD when it first came out and got the CD as a Christmas present. Being a former Mormon missionary, this movie had a very special meaning for me. There were so many things in this movie I could relate to. I'm sure there were many "inside" references that most people wouldn't catch but would still enjoy the movie.

For those in love (or lust) with the character of Aaron, here's a link to the website for actor Steve Sandvoss. Since Latter Days I've seen him in a couple of TV shows and I think he's a rising star.

I went to see it when it was showing in Scottsdale about six months or so ago. I have to admit that I really enjoyed the movie. I wanted to head to the airport and catch the Continental flight to Brasil to see meu bebito. In the parking lot, there was a very goodlooking guy, yes he looked like one of the Mormon boys in the movie. He wanted to know how he could get to the freeway (I-10)to get back to Los Angeles. He had driven all the way from LA (it was no longer showing there, and the closest theater showing it was in Scottsdale). He told us that he was once a missionary and he experienced much of what was depicted in the movie. He also mentioned that his younger brother was getting ready to go to Brasil as a missionary. I asked if he would be in Rio, but alas he was being sent to some backwoods Mormon outpost in the Amazon. Oh well, so much for my Mormon boy fantasies.
