I wonder when Brett Holt et al said this. There was a time when they had no trouble hiring locals. As for time of year, DC has a large meeting trade, regardless of Congress and attracts large conventions even in summer. The only really dead times are around major holidays and some of the minors.

 

Funny that you're saying that because here in the DC area some guys ONLY hire visitors because so many folks on here are "kind of a big deal" or they belive so and they're afraid of hiring locals. That's what was told to me by Jay Holt (retired), Brett Holt, Jake Walker and others.

I wouldn't make generalizations... I know a local escort (the one I had to defend from being smeared on here by a competitor...) and he told me he has trips were he's busy and trips were he has 1 guy per day and breaks even while losing calls from DC... "It's very unpredictable" he keeps saying, he also gets out of DC a lot in the winter and the summer because there's no lobbying and the only tourist in the summer bring their families to town.

I meant they (escorts) told me many times local guys (local clients) would tell them they (local clients) would only hire visiting escorts and not the ones who live in DC because they were important (the local DC clients).

Back in my busier hiring days, I hired quite a few traveling escorts. It was a mixed bag but more positive than negative. I would say that if you fancy a traveler, go for it!

I have had only one experience with a traveling escort who had seriously overbooked. Actually, there were 2, but one at least had the courtesy to beg off pleading exhaustion, for which honesty I gave him points. The other one kept pushing our meeting later into the evening ostensibly due to a family dinner, which was total BS. I gave him several opportunities to cancel, but he insisted everything was fine. Five minutes after I got to his place, he fell asleep on me, then had the nerve to tell me he was worn out from the client who had just left--I supposed that was supposed to make me feel better. It didn't. I had hours earlier suggested that we cancel, but he obviously didn't want to lose the money. I really felt I had received short shrift. This was the only time I submitted a bad review, and even there I was very evenhanded and fair. The guy absolutely flipped out about the poor review which he termed "particularly nasty" which it was not--I had gone out of my way to say as many nice things about him as I could. Not a very mature individual.

 

Note on the etymology of the expression "short shrift." Shrift comes from the verb "to shrive" which means to hear confession and offer absolution. In the Middle Ages, prisoners waiting to be executed were entitled to see a priest, however, neither the prison authorities nor the priests themselves were willing to devote much time to this service, hence prisoners generally received "short shrift." Just something interesting to know.
