Rudynate and I share a similar perspective and tenure of relationships. My wedding vows were and are viewed by me as commitment. It might be sappy, but we still love, honor, and cherish one another and are committed to making it work. What has been harder to do is realize my partner and I, rather than our friends and society, get to decide for us what loving, honoring, and cherishing means. It can change, and does. I think that is the beauty of life, and the toe curling sex does play a part, however that happens.

I am a relationship person, but vows should not supercede reality or feelings. Regardless of what you vowed, it may not work out the way you planned, and some things are not fixable. I was in a 22 year relationship myself, so I speak for experience. Overtime it evolved into an open relationship that Worked for us, however, if it hadn't I am not certain I would have stayed in the relationship eventhough every other aspect of it was perfect.

I love that you were able to evolve and grow together.

Who said an open relationship was not a viable way to make a relationship work?

Well it does have it's critics, but one should only judge their OWN.

I know a few monogamous male couples. I know many more male couples that are not monogamous.

Rudy, we can say we Know, but "do we Really KNOW" ?

I take people at face value. If they say they're monogamous, then they're monogamous.

OK, Ill buy that, but perhaps THEY don't even know they're not monogamous.....? I think the point I am trying to make is that we can really only know ourselves...because what we know of others is only what they allow us to know.

I'm really not sure I could stay monogamous if THIS came into view.... (love or no love)

I can live with that.

Such wonderful posts. Clearly many of you have made it work, whatever it is. :)

We're 20 years in and about 10 years ago we negotiated the understanding we have today. We're as committed to each other as we've been since the day we stood together, stared into our eyes, and said "I do."

Thanks for sharing y'all's experiences. I learn something new every day, thanks for the education.
