It’s fine to question his business model and the legitimacy of his interview statements. But I find it a bit shortsighted and naive to believe his appearance has nothing to do with the harsh criticism and mean-spirited comments that have been made.

I stand by my statement “that here is yet another attack on a professional provider”

I'm not going to use the pretty yellow “quote” capability to gather the posts of what people in this thread have said. But I will use the words.

#3. “…and was somewhat creeped out by the pics…”

#4 “…, I didn’t get the attraction, either”…

#5: “I don’t get the appeal of this guy…”

#7: “He’s difficult for me to look at…”

#10: “…He looks like he could could be one of the Dixie Chicks.”

#13: “…This kid reminds me of a boy version of Lindsay Lohan.”

#18: “I can’t tell if it’s a guy or a girl…”

#20: “…but he seems prepubescent to me…”

#22: “…with this travesty of an escort!”

Nothing has changed since he came up for discussion four years ago. I provided the link earlier in this thread (post #38).

I stand by my statement that “It’s sad this young professional is marginalized here because of his looks.”

We seem to enjoy eating our own.

I understand your concern and statements, but I think part of the reason there were so many comments on his appearance is because the OP asked if you would hire him if you had $7000 to spend. I think most people are wont to give a reason for making the choice they made and, particularly in this industry, I think it's not at all unusual for someone to make that choice largely based on how a person looks. Some of the words used could be seen as harsh and unfair (I was #7, so I'm not saying I'm without any culpability here) but I would like to think that most folks can separate his physical appeal from his inherent self-worth. We weren't asked if we thought he was nice.

First of all, I never said "his appearance has nothing to do with the harsh criticism and mean-spirited comments that have been made...

I agree - you did not say that. I said that.

I think we've both been a bit snarky and played with words in our responses today. I apologize to the forum community for my part in that. I’ll let you have the last word in this unfortunate exchange between us.

Ohhh…. and nihilistic. I had to look that one up…. and I still don’t grasp it in the context used. But I'm a simple person - with a simple mind.

Peace

I'm the author of #3 and I'd like to revise my original comment. I should have said I was TOTALLY creeped out by the pics. Just wanted to clarify that for you.

In this forum and, indeed, in the general world of hiring professionals, I expect to be judged by my appearance. It's the reason we go to the gym, the reason we take professional photos, the reason we try to dress nicely. I'd like to think that I get hired because of my sparkling personality and witty repartee, but in reality, I know 99% physical. We wouldn't put ourselves out there if we were thin-skinned and affronted every time somebody passed on hiring us. I doubt this guy here would be either. I'm sure he's heard it all and expects to not be everybody's cup of tea, so to speak.
