Just wondering if one can get desensitized to Poppers. Been playing with toys recently and using them to enhance the experience. Probably nightly for a week and a half. Last couple of days not lasting as long or doing much of anything.

Is there a brand others think is really good?

No need to find a new brand. You will build up a tolerance to any inhalant or other drug if used often enough. Lay off the poppers for a few days. Your body is telling you it needs a break. Listen to it. Then, when you take it up again, your old bottle should work just fine.

In addition to Ares's very good advice, I would add you should make sure to close the bottle tightly and store them in the freezer.

Benefits = 1. Makes sex very intense. 2. Releases inhibitions. 3.Relaxes muscles so you "open up" more easily. 4. Can produce an emotionally pleasurable (if false) "bonding" moment with your partner.

Risks/side effects = 1. Possible dizzyness/ headaches. 2. Releases inhibitions (can lead to increased risk-taking.) 3. Makes you less sensitive to pain, which can be bad if the pain is telling you something 'aint right. 4. "High" only lasts about 30/45 seconds. 5. Temporary lowering of immune system (this is after all, like other lab-created drugs, a mix of formaldehyde/ antifreeze/lighter fluid or whatever the hell it is --- when will some some gay chemist publish a toxicology report? Genuine amyl nitrate prescribed by an RX would be "pure." Commercial brands of "room freshener" or whatever they pretend it is are a myriad of cheap carcinogenic industrial chemicals. 6. Highly flammable/burns if spilled on skin. 7. Possible loss of four or five brain cells per use (read #5.) 7. As WmClarke notes, don't mix w viagra. They both increase blood flow suddenly, so taken in combo --- and esp w still add'l drugs --- could induce cardiac arrest.

For awhile, poppers made sex SO much more exciting for me - even if "sex" meant with just me. I must have overused because they do barely anything for me. Also, it varies and I have no idea what the factors are. Sometimes they make me intensely horny and sometimes they do nearly nothing.

Since a lot of guys don't visit the Fetish Forum we are having a discussion about poppers down there...

http://www.companyofmen.org/threads/hot-videos-featuring-poppers.114806/

I have never done them, but on a couple of occasions when playing the Dom my subs have used them. In a private one on one situation it would have made me a bit uncomfortable, but in each instance it was at a club where others were available to lend a helping hand in case there was an incident.

Others in this thread have discussed the pros send cons. In the other thread I do relate a story that sealed the deal for me about never going there.

The diminishing effects might not be attributable to overuse. The formulas have been altered yet again and are no longer as potent as before.

There is ABSOLUTELY no standard regarding what is in whatever concoctions that are being sold. It is not as if there is a quality control department that is overseen by a government agency such as the FDA.

The gods only know what might or might not be in the bottle at any given time!!! Plus, I would bet that there is also a bit of "placebo effect" that often enters into the equation.

They're sold as something else, right? I think like cassette head cleaners? So they wouldn't be regulated as a consumable

What's a cassette!!!!

They used to be sold as "video head cleaner," but with the demise of video cassette players they are now called "leather cleaner."

Maybe after the lose their potency you could use them to clean your sofa. Test in an inconspicuous place first, of course.

I'm just so glad that the (residual) smell is a huge turn-off to me. I've never done poppers, never will. I don't like to have sex with a guy who insists on having them. (Besides, the few times I've given into their need for them, the guy never is able to get it up.)

I'm not a "party and play" guy in any case. Sex after a few drinks can be fun, but I'm one of those people that really wants the high from the feelings of sexual intimacy, not from other substances.

But hey - I'm not stopping anyone out here from using them - go ahead, lol.

Think about the result if they did test and regulate. The government could slap a $2 per bottle tax on them and probably pay off the national debt in five years.

I've never tried them nor would I given the temporary and permanent vision loss reported in some people. Alkyl nitrites (aka, poppers) where invented and used to treat angina. This group of chemicals cause smooth muscles to spontaneously dilate. These muscles aren't under conscious control and are critical to the circulatory system. That's why headaches are such a common side-effect. They rapidly change blood pressure, which is how they cause temporary and permanent damage to retina tissue in the eyes, kill brain cells, etc.

If you had a pure medical-grade source, you'd still have some of these risks, but they would be lower. The stuff you buy online or in other OTC venues frequently contain contaminants that have no place in the human body.

As with all things in life, something done safely, carefully, and in moderation should be ok; unless you're particularly susceptible to that chemical reaction. But, my eyes are critical to my work, so I don't take some risks.

I thought that was from masturbation. Lol

The notion that poppers kill brain cells is factually wrong. A study by the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study found no relationship between poppers use and cognitive functioning on a variety of cognitive tests.

This is exactly why I tell people I can't recommend a "brand" - there's no regulation on contents, no regulation on listing ingredients, and (generally) no brand consistency. What;s labelled as JJ Platinum (for example) might be made by different companies, with different ingredients, etc. Poppers are very much an at-your-own-risk type of venture.

Do you have a link for the study? I'd like to read their results. Chronic use of poppers can lead to a condition called methemoglobinemia, which leads to challenges for the circulatory system to deliver oxygen throughout the body. Reduced mental capability is very common in such cases as the brain is starved for oxygen. Since I've only seen writeups talking about chronic use linked to methemoglobinemia, I imagine it's relatively rare.

POPPERS today are NOT as great as when amyl nitrate was available. After HIV raised its ugly head back in the 80s, the liquid in the brown bottle as well as the amps was outlawed. Both truly enhanced the euphoria! Today's "juice" just does not have the same kick as the original, but, depending on brand, can still enhance the sexual experience/play!

My favorite "go to escort of some 4+ years in San Francisco" reintroduced them to me along with 420, and the sex between us has gotten hotter and hotter each time that we have met! But even with this combination, I am still cognizant of what's happening during our hot play time and continue to "play SAFELY!"

[Jungle Juice Black or Platinum is my favorite liquid that has been refrigerated, not frozen.]
