So lets see 154,000 jury trials in the US per year. (Surprisingly small number I thought). 6 -12 jurors per trials Average trial is 5 to 6 days. So that is about 8 to 10 million juror days in the country. At $100 per day (average in the US if $22 NJ is $5) that would cost 1 billion dollars per year across the country. or an increase of about $800 million per year. About the cost of one B2 Bomber. Something on the order of $2.50 per person in the US per year. Lets not forget about the decrease in the length of the trials and the decrease expenditure of the cost of the work of getting people to show up who are not going to serve because of economic hardship.

Not a major issue. Not a sexy issue. One that is fixable if anyone was interested in doing so.

By the way, don't forget that the daily payments you receive for serving on a jury are supposed to be reported on your income tax filings.

As a bonus, lets make that earnings tax free. No FICA. No state tax. People will be flocking to do jury duty.
