White high school football players in Idaho charged with raping black, disabled teammate with a coat hanger

When a teammate held out his arms after football practice in their high school locker-room, the boy thought he was about to get a hug.

Instead, he got viciously raped, authorities say.

As the teammate restrained the boy, another football player allegedly thrust a coat hanger into the boy’s rectum. Then a third teammate kicked the coat hanger several times, according to a criminal complaint.

The Oct. 23, 2015 incident has rocked the tiny town of Dietrich, Idaho. This spring, after several months of investigation, the state Attorney General’s office filed sexual assault charges against all three alleged attackers. Two of the teenagers are being charged as adults and could face life in prison, under Idaho law.

OP's note: is like what happens in the military when a guy ain't cool.

Jeez. This is so fucked up on so many levels it makes my head spin.

It's like when they rape women, instead of just dating them, buying a couple of dinners and having sex... lazy, and entitled, besides they didn't realized how homoerotic is the idea of sticking something up someone else's butt. Is like fraternities saying fagot yet engaging in bromance relationships of jealousy between some of the members.

Yes, some people fantasize about rape and even roleplay it, but what these guys are accused of was criminal. Rape is bad enough but motivated by racial hatred or hostility toward a physically disabled teammate?! I'm disgusted and hope the perps are convicted and punished to the full extend of the law.

I'm not so sure it's homoerotic as much as feminizing a male in order to humiliate him. But whatever it is, I hope they throw the book at the perps and then get them shrinks.

The victim needs a shrink - the perpetrators need long prison sentences during which they can see what it feels like to be raped.

Actually, I don't mean that. I don't wish rape upon anyone.

This story is just so sad and disturbing.

This story makes me inextricably sad on so many levels. Mostly for the victim of course who thought he was going to get a hug but ended up being violently assaulted. I feel like crying for this young man. I wish I was there to give him the hug he was waiting for and so desperately needs and deserves. I am also sad and horrified that an environment was created where these players thought that this sick behavior would be tolerated. How could anyone be so filled with hate that they could do something like this? The coaches, teachers, school administrators, parents, and the town as a whole need to look inside themselves and think about what they are teaching their children by word and/or example. Punishment needs to be swift and severe. It won't help the victim or the perpetrators but perhaps it will set an example for others and create a teachable moment (I hate that phrase) that coaches and parents everywhere can use to make sure we are raising humans with humanity.

It is sad, it is tragic, and it is disgusting. But I do have one question. Where the hell were the fucking coaches?????

I always asked this question in high school gym class as other guys were shoving me into lockers or getting in my face and yelling at me about making them lose some dumb volleyball game, or ganging up on me and hitting me really hard with dodge balls.

Where is Mr. Lucas and why is he letting this happen to me?

Teachers and coaches suck, and they always have. Coaches don't care as long as their team wins, and teachers were just as scared of the bullies as I was.

I spent several years in the military in the states and in Asia and have no idea what you are talking about.

I am even more confused by "when a guy ain't cool." Did you spend all your time in the military in the U.S.?

And I did not have a easy time in the military. In my last assignment in Asia, there was a race riot a week before I arrived at camp in May 1968. I heard a lot of rumors. But, I ended up becoming good friends with a white guy who was supposedly involved in the riot. We spent a huge amount of time together in those last two months. and I never saw any sign of racial bias. But, who knows for sure.

We go back a while on this site and I am greatful, so you know I am serious when I write that I am confused. And you always know you can trust me.

Participating, passively at the very least.

I meant red code, I served in the Navy.

Plenty of talk in this forum about rape in the military or punishment on guys sticking stuff up their butts and I didn't imply it was done to him because of his ethnicity, I think it might have been another "reason" for him to be pack attacked by them.

You're very trustworthy, no need to say it on here.

I guess they allowed it to happen by consenting it openly or in an implicit way.

Btw a few months ago a basketball player was "jumped" in front of his coach in TN university because he drove a woman who got raped by one of his teammates to an ER.

I guess he wasn't cool either.

Another reason... race, ethnicity, physical handicap, weight, height, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender.... and there are (unfortunately) dozens of other qualifiers to being considered normal and human.

This is gross.

No wonder I don't leave my house often.

I don't like shooting from the hip without some first-hand knowledge of the facts, but my first charge is to the parents. The newspaper reports that the victim was several months into the abuse and was also enduring "mental disorders including learning disabilities." I feel it was incumbent upon his parents to have removed him from the "team" long ago. I also feel that his "mental disorders including learning disabilities" entitled him to have been in a special education facility, which would have given him some separation from random abuses. Dietrich High School in Idaho, if the reports are factual, has a lot of from-ground-up restructuring to do.

Not that this story in of itself doesn't upset me, but to add to that - a coat hanger? (Assumedly a broken one, of course.) Like, a wire with a very sharp end, or perhaps a broken plastic (or wooden) hanger with a jagged break on the end? I don't see anything that talks about the extent of the serious injuries to the victim (aside from needing hospitalization), but, that had to have been not only indescribably painful, but unbelievably dangerous as well. Just horrid. Horrid that it happened, and horrid that any of those idiots would even consider doing such a thing. My god.

Mo, I also was bullied in PE class as a student and had no respect for the coaches who encouraged it. But, I take exception to your apparent condemnation of teachers. I NEVER allowed a student to be bullied or, god forbid, assaulted in 35 years of public school teaching, and know that most of my colleagues didnt either. I know, I hope you are speaking out of anger and pain, but I am extremely proud of the love , kindness and, yes, protection I gave to approximation 5000 students in my career. It seems to be fashionable today to blame teachers for our failing schools, but please reconsider and don't jump on that band wagon. I do not suck!!! Thank you.

Respectfully submitted,

Glennnn

Good for you, it takes just a few bad apples (by action or negligence to act) to ruin the reputation of such an honorable profession.

I do wonder as well, but I also know what a teen boy can be like when he's being bullied. Often the parents are the last to find out because the boy is trying to ignore it or ashamed or trying to handle it himself. We don't know what mental challenges the young man has, but the town's population is 334, so I doubt their school has much in the way of special needs facilities. I'm speculating based on personal experiences, but I'd wager the young man did everything he could to fit in and be accepted in a very small town of probably mostly white people. Sadly, 3 boys and at least 11 adults didn't accept him.

You make very good points. I further submit that the predatory mentalities involved would have omitted only the racial slurs from their attacks, if the victim had been caucasian.

Totally. There would've likely been just as many slurs about his mental challenges and they would've found other things to slur if he'd been white. But, he wasn't white. He was a racial minority in a small town in Idaho at a time of ever deepening racial tension around the country linked to growing income inequality and racist BS by Trump and other politicians.
