One good reason that Alex Rodriguez would never have fitted in on the Boston Red Sox is that he is too classy and good looking for them. Their whole team is ugly, and now, an LA Times sports writer is saying it isn't just the team that is ugly, it is the fans as well.

See T. J. Simers column in today's LA Times Sports section:

Grim Reality Series Needs an Extreme Make-Ovaw

You know that business about being careful what you wish for, because you might be seen on Fox TV by everyone in the country, revealing the fact that almost everyone who lives in Boston is pretty ugly?

Well, you can bet it's no accident that Fox scheduled the premiere of "The Swan," featuring 10 "ugly ducklings," for Monday night, after two days of World Series camera shots showing ugly people sitting in the stands at Fenway Park.

You couldn't find a much better advertisement for plastic surgery and the need for dramatic makeovers than the first two games of the World Series.

If there were any people in the park who were good-looking, it was obvious they were just visiting or promoting a Fox TV show. In fact, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Tom Hanks and Jimmy Fallon were all at Fenway, and who did Fox spend the most time with on camera? The ugliest of them all — even asking Fallon to talk with a Boston accent so he could get on everyone's nerves, like everyone else from Boston.

There's nothing wrong with being ugly — we all have relatives. I get along fine with the wife's brothers, Bubba I, Bubba II and Bubba III, but I can't imagine any of them appearing on TV unless "America's Most Wanted" decided to show one of their mug shots again.

We haven't seen much of Boston in the World Series the last 80 years or so, so it's shocking to see so many ugly people in one place. Like you, I just assumed the ugly people in this country were working on their farms in Nebraska.

But two days of Fox coverage has changed my mind. Fox News' motto is "fair and balanced," and so no matter who you are — if you're wearing a funny hat, praying, making a face or dropping your head into your hands — you're going to get on TV.

This is raw reality TV, and based on the pictures Fox has brought us, I'd have to conclude that everyone living in the Boston area who attended the first two games of the World Series is ugly, because at one time or another, the Fox cameras showed us everyone in attendance.

From my experience, ugly people will actually make an attempt to look better or dress themselves up if they're going to be around good-looking people like you or me. But most of the fans at Fenway were dressed hideously. No sense trying to catch the attention of someone else if everyone else is ugly. Some fans wore hats or scarves to cover their faces, I presume so they wouldn't scare the children.

Listen, when they talk about the Boston curse, it's the curse of being so ugly. Some of that has to do with everyone residing in Boston being a miserable, cantankerous, depressing know-it-all who expects the worst in life. (I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of our editors have roots in Boston.)

Between pitches — every pitch — Fox has shown us Boston fans making faces at their own players when something goes awry, and you can see how it's taken its toll on those poor people. The Fox cameras have also shown us that some of those people need to trim their nose hair.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AS YOU can see, the fans in Boston live and die with their Red Sox, which is understandable, because when you're that ugly what else is there to live for?

But could you imagine the outcome of a Clipper game determining whether you're going to be happy or grumpy the next day at work?

These people are crazy. Just think how many Red Sox fans have said at one time or another in their lives: "I'm not going to die until Boston wins the World Series." You know how many people took their last breaths thinking their lives had not been worth living?

It's not like that here, of course. When the Angels and Dodgers lose, we just grin and bear it, which explains why we remain the beautiful people.

Oh Lucky, I detect some bitterness and jealousy because of the good fortune of the Red Sox.

I travel throughout the world, and the folks in Boston (my home) are not ugly. I prefer the men in Montreal or Budapest, and there are lots of pretty boys in New York and Miami and L.A., but Boston doesn't even start to get anywhere near ugly. (Heve you ever been to Alabama or West Virginia?)

Now the poor baseball fans were bundled up because of the weather, but they (we) are NOT UGLY. Sometimes a bit brusk and rude, but not ugly.

Now poor A-Rod has shown that he has no class, and he has made another team into a loser. Maybe someone should figure this out. A-Rod is all about his own contract and his own statistics, but he has never won anything on any team he has played for. Seattle got better when they got rid of him, and Texas got much better as a team when they got rid of him. Now he has turned the Yankees into big time losers, and he did not come through in the clutch. Why does he have to? He gets $250 Million no matter what the team does. He showed no class in the ACLS, and the Yankees will never win again as long as they have him.

And I really do not give a poop about the hairstyles of the Red Sox. They are playing great, so they can wear thier hair in pig tails for all I care. Its not all about looks, you know. Its about performance.

The fans I won't comment on. But some of the players look startlingly better in person than on TV. Johnny Damon, who looks like a fat caveman on the tube, is one hot, built thing in person.

It's not the tube. It's the baggy uniforms. You'd *think* they'd be flattering, but they're not.

I'd thought a pitcher was cute but pudgy for a while. Then I saw some pre-game warmup footage where he didn't have the jersey on. Just some clingy spandex sleeveless shirt. DAY-UM! :9 Can you say ripped? Likewise the occasional locker room shirtless shot .... those guys look just FINE on the tube. :7

I have a feeling that someone is jealous that their poor Angels got beat in 3 games! What is that called??? A sweep? Yep I think so! Appearently this man or Lucky has never been in a gay bar in Boston, Hot Hot Hot! You forget Boston is a huge college town (city) and that always means hot young studs and girls from around the world.

And as for fans, yes we are true fans even through all the loosing! Because unlike (some) people in LA we actually put some stock in things other than just looks! We have heart and soul, I know that would be difficult for one LA reporter to understand I am sure his hair hasn't moved out of place since 1986!

Of course half my family lives in LA area (they live in the OC) and I can tell you they are right now cheering for the Redsox! Now I have to find his email and send him a nasty email! Oh and I forgot to comment on A-hole oh I mean A-Rod! I have only one word to describe him and it is "looser" okay one more "Cheater"! You know when you can't win you cheat! And that is exactly what he did! What a slime! Thank you Paul Revere, yes A-Rod has never done anything!

Alex Rodriquez is supposed to be HOT??? I don't personally see it, as at best I'd rate him ordinary looking. I'd rather have Derek Jeter or Jorge Posada or Mike Mussina, any day.

>(Heve you ever been to Alabama or West Virginia?)

Yes, I have, many times, and there are many good looking men in both places. Why do you have to slander AL and WV men to make your point?

Yes, they are too UGLY! Boston is second only to Philadelphia in having the nastiest, ugliest fans in all sports! Just ask Bill Buckner how beautiful those pycophathic fans are.

If it had not been for A-Rod's performance against the Twins, NY would not have faced the Red Sox in the ALCS. He also had nothing to do with leaving the Rangers, as it was the Rangers who could no longer afford to pay his salary, which they OFFERED him and not which he DEMANDED to sign/play with them. Perhaps, Seattle and Texas got better after he left, because first Texas and then NY gave up lots of money and multiple good players to get him?

Not to mention that the only thing that the Sox fans are upset about, is that Boston did not have enough to offer to get A-Rod. Get over it! You lost him, so stop being so bitter. And stop trying to brand the Yankees as the Evil Empire who buys championships as the BoSox have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball! But of course, whining is the one sport in which Boston is the undisputed World Champion year after year after year after year!

I had the Jim Philips Show on my radio today. He was talking about the 1986 World Series, Red Sox/ Mets. He began to talk about Bill Buckner and his error that lost game six for Boston. He said, the Boston fans would not stop haunting Buckner or his wife and children. His kids were given a real bad time in school over their father loosing the game. His wife picked on in the market. Buckner had to move his family to Idaho to escape the insane Red Sox fans. Now the screw balls found him in Idaho and are starting all over. Let the man and his family live in peace. It is a game not the end of life as we know it. O.J. Simpson gets more respect from the public then this poor guy. Boston has the nerve to bad mouth the Yankee fans no less.x(

I too observed the classless looks and actions of the Boston players and fans. The death of an "innocent" bystander near burning automobiles speaks volumes for the mindset of the city. After winning

game 4 of the world series I couldn't help thinking that these 26 men were in need of basic grooming tips and a substantial dose of humility.
