Of course, condoms are not a golden parachute either. The article states that the strain infecting the gentleman was a multi-drug-resistant strain. However the article also states that experts believe that "such failures of PrEP will likely remain rare." It also states that in a 1400-man Kaiser study none of the generally high-risk participants have contracted HIV despite their very high rate of other sexually transmitted disease infections. So in the end the choices offered all seem to have some risk involved and everyone has the oppotunity to weigh and choose how "safe" is safe. No but if the client is taking Truvada then according to studies regarding the medication he would be 98/99% protected from being infected with HIV (assuming the escort was HIV infected). Other STDs are a different story and clients cannot expect protection by taking Truvada or the like. Sorrowfully if the strain of HIV that an escort has (assuming again he has one) is multi-drug resistant then a client/partner has a chance of getting infected. Again, a sex partner does not get infected every time he or she has sex with an infected escort. So far there has been one reported case of someone being infected in a multi-drug resistant situation considering the thousands of individuals that have taken the protective drugs. Every individual has the right to weigh the variables involved and make the decision on their own, based on science, not judgment. The variables the escort presents would not weigh very heavily one way or another in my mind.

Well, certainly if you are not using a condom and you are not faithfully taking Truvada (or the like) and the escort is HIV positive there is some chance that you will sero-convert.
