GAY BOYCOTT

I just heard on CNN that today gays are supposed to be boycotting businesses to show their collective strength in the US economy. Apparently, this is something that has been circulating on the Internet, altho I haven't heard of it until now. I would only hope that this boycott did not extend to hiring escorts!}(

Actually, it was discussed here a few weeks ago. I predicted it would not be successful as queens would not be able to stay off their cellphones for a whole day.

Stupid idea. Boycott of all businesses just to show we are here? I don't get it.

Well I wouldn't say that it is a stupid idea. I just didn't know about the boycott.

I thought this was pretty stupid. First off, most large coporations do their books monthly or even quarterly, so it wouldn't even register. Second, it would have to be understood to each business why it was happening, most gay people didn't even know about it. Third, the people in my life that would have been affected are the small busineses in my neighborhood, Chelsea, which is well aware of the input of the gay dollar. I would say that's unfair.

 

Boycotts are meant to dispute a particular kind of treatment by a certain target. They usually take months if not years to work, and it requires a lot of deligence and media attention (Phillip Morris and Coors is a perfect example). Refusing to go the Korean Deli for a whole day is just stupid.
