But maybe I was never as pretty as J.R. Ackerley was when he was pre-teen, in public school (back in the early 1900's, I think).

"... a ginger-haired boy used to crawl across the dormitory floor to my bed after lights out and, lying on his back on my strip of carpet, beseech me in whispers to let him in, or , failing that, to stretch down my hand."

My, my, my.

Were you ever that pretty at that age?

Neither that pretty, nor that British. :D

This reminds me of my British all boy boarding school. Lots of dormitory adventures. Remember an older boy on a camping trip sliding his hand down my sleeping bag. First time naked with another boy!

I wonder how much early experiences influence us for life. Had early experiences with a blonde then a red head & always had a thing for them ever since.

I think the early experiences have a big impact.

from The Deemster (1873)

Chapter VII, "Passing the Love of Women"

by Hall Caine

Ewan (recently made a parson): "physically a weakling; a tall spare youth of two-and-twenty, fair-haired like his sister, with a face as spiritual and beautiful, and hardly less feminine. He was of a self-torturing spirit, constantly troubled with vague questionings..."

Dan (Ewan's cousin): "...[a] lusty youth... at twenty,... a braw, brown-haired, brown-eyed lad of six feet two inches in stature, straight and upright, and with thews and sinews of an ox. He was the athlete of the island, and where there was a tough job of wrestling to be had, or a delightful bit of fighting to be done, there was Dan in the heart of it."

During a public contest, Dan angrily accuses Ewan of lying.

"[Ewan] strode towards Dan.

'You've called me a liar," [Ewan] said in a shrill voice that was like a cry. 'Now, you shall prove your word -- you shall fight me -- you shall, by God.'

He was completely carried away by passion.

'The parzon, the parzon!' 'Man alive, the young parzon!' the people muttered, and they closed around.

Dan stood a moment. He looked down from his great height at Ewan's quivering form and distorted face. Then he turned about and glanced into the faces of the people. In another instant his eyes were swimming in tears; the took a steop towards Ewan, flung his arms about him, and buried his head in his neck, and the great stalwart lad wept like a little child. In another moment Ewan's passion was melted away, and he kissed Dan on the cheek.

'Blubbering cowards!" 'Aw, blatherskites!' "och, man alive, a pair of turtle-doves!'

Dan lifted his head, and looked around, raised himself to his full height, clenched his fists and said:

'Now, my lads, you did your best to make fight, and you couldn't manage it. I won't fight my cousin, and he shan't fight me; but if there's a man among you would like to know for himself how much of a coward I am, let him stop out -- I'm ready.'

Not a man budged an inch."

"Our friend Kate often speaks disparagingly about the child her son Max [age 4] has selected as his best friend: a scrawny and nearly translucent boy named Owen.

Not only was she angry that Owen was the youngest and least verbal kid in the class - which made her feel that Max was setting too low a bar - but it irked her that whenever they got together, every activity they engaged in somehow managed to culminate in Max lying facedown on the floor and Owen mounting and dry-humping him.

Building with LEGOs: humping. Playing pirates: humping. Baking cookies: humping.*

*While the boys seemed to enjoy this, Kate was concerned about what it meant for Max's future. "I knew he was gay from the day he was born," she said, "but I guess I always kind of hoped he'd at least be a 'top.'"

I had a red-headed roommate in college, but I was so deeply in denial that if he'd done anything like this I'd have run out of the room. But thinking back on it, he was damn hot and very hung. Straight as far as I know, but then I suppose he thought I was too. Hmm, haven't heard from him for a while, I should get in touch!

Usually I was the perpetrator. I have many, many stories of my pre-pubescent/pubescent adventures in exploring my penis. When I was 4 or 5, I lived in a complex and had a close friend called Charlie - we would hang out frequently and be allowed to play alone in my room, which always turned into us rolling around on my bed. Or the floor. We bumped crotches in the basement and while I don't remember ever getting naked, I do remember that I was heartbroken when we moved. After Charlie, no boy was safe around me ....
