Unusual topic: massage parlors fronting as hetero brothels ... but an observation

Yesterday, I was looking for a dimsum restaurant that had recently shuttered and was trying to locate the new name of the restaurant that took its place. I googled its address and up popped a slew of massage parlour reviews. Apparently, this massage site was located on the 6th floor of the restaurant.

 

It linked me to a website called utopiaguide, which had a similar forum setup like Daddys They have a forum for classified, rules, general discussion topics, and regional reviews of massage parlors and i think some escort agencies as well. I haven't explored every discussion topic but i had a prurient interest in the bounty of asian massage parlors that seem to be everywhere in manhattan. I know they exist as I have been to one myself (massage only) and have many hetero friends who like to participate in this hobby by visiting massage parlors fronting as brothels. So, I know they exist, but to what extent, i never realized how many! I can only imagine all the horned up businessmen from Long Island or Westchester sneaking away for some taboo sex or some intimacy that they may not get at home or from a girlfriend. It is mind boggling how many massage parlors there are in manhattan and the tristate area. Upon reading the reviews, I can only imagine the poor girls working there as I don't think they are there by choice sadly.... many of them do not even speak english or the "mongers" as the johns/hobbyists are called resort to using smartphone translators to communicate. But most of the communication is done up front and they seem to always have a TS (table shower) followed by DFK (deep french kissing) and then BBBJ (no translation needed) followed by putting on a cover (condom) and doing MISH (missionary style) or CG (cowgirl style), etc... too many acronyms. I will admit to being both disturbed and fascinated by this subject. It wasn't until a few years ago when "sex trafficking" and all it's inherent horrors started to make news that I began to wonder about all those little massage parlors in cities I have worked and visited in. And now with the proliferation of these parlors for both straight and gay men and peopled by mostly asian and slovakian men, it would seem, I have wondered if a visit to one of these places is contributing to the underground crime of sex trafficking. I've not been to any of the male massage parlors in NYC primarily at least initially because I'm not particularly attracted to Asian men. However, I have wondered about the ethics of such places and whether or not my contribution monetarily would go toward funding some criminal enterprise that exploits humans in the worst way. Food for thought certainly.

Ironically, it is the government’s own broken immigration system that creates much of the trafficking that it decries. Whether people are being coerced into providing sexual services or into working in underground sweatshops against their will, it is often fear of government deportation that keeps them trapped in abusive circumstances. Of course, the government’s criminalization of sex work itself also ends up supporting traffickers, whose victims are naturally afraid to seek help from a state that labels them criminals.

I guess it's a double standard, when i read about the johns and their descriptions of the girls and the sexual acts... it sounds so demeaning. At least for me, I don't see or have not encountered any guy "forced" into commercialized sex because they had no other alternatives....for these girls, most don't speak english and the list of items on the sexual menu (i.e., cum in mouth, rimming) can be ordered a la carte for extra $$$ - and, sadly/surprisingly it is very cheap.

The way straight men are led to think of women and sex is part of it, too. What may drive much of the demand for female sex workers is a contemptuous view of them as convenient receptacles for penetration and a separation between that and "normal" sex with wife or fiancee.

Apparently, there is a serious government crackdown going on against some of these places right now. There are some very interesting parallels with the ongoing RB prosecution. For example, this is not just a local “vice” operation. The federal government, including the Department of Homeland Security, has been investigating this for years and is the driving force behind these arrests. Like with RB, federal jurisdiction is based on the “Travel Act.” Like with RB, “money laundering” is one of the alleged crimes (but of course this is derivative of the underlying crime of prostitution since the resulting money is considered the proceeds of illegal activity). And like with RB, (at least based on my review of the article) there do not appear to be minors involved, or coercion (though I should note that there is an immigration element here not really present in RB, where people were brought into the country on fraudulent visas; however, the government admits that in at least some cases "the women fully intended to work as prostitutes"). It will be interesting to see where all this goes and how the affected communities react.

I wonder what, if anything, the government will do with this list?
