School of Rock, the Musical, is advertised as the show that "kicks class". It's a fun musical about a down & out band player who uses his buddy's name/credentials to substitute at an exclusive private school. Of course, he knows nothing about teaching these 6th graders but knows a lot about music. He transforms these privileged scholars into a rock group called, The School of Rock. Then, prepares and enters them into a battle of the bands contest. It's LOUD but lively.

Alex Brightman (Dewey, the substitute teacher) is amazing. Such a likable loser who just loves his students and brings them out of their shells. The children are not only good actors, singers, and dancers but play their own instruments. Very talented group of kids.

It's good family entertainment. Adults will be needed to explain to the kids several of the references made about rock groups from the 70's and 80's.

It's playing at the Winter Garden Theater which is next door to the Stardust Diner. Nice place for a Broadway style meal.
