As tough as they would be to study, I believe the same is true of cats, though they're clearly more self-motivated than dogs and more subtle about recognizing our moods.

Interesting... I know my dog is sensitive to my moods, voice, movements, etc.,but facial expressions is something I had not thought of.

Dogs can smell cancer. They pay attention to how people are feeling. They don't start wars or make crappy films.

 

Geez, they need to be running this planet.

One of my dogs was so sensitive to distress noises that when someone cried on tv, she would approach the tv and nuzzle the image. That always touched me.
