I have been getting some weird sketchy e-mails..

like

[email protected] Re: Question

>>>had a file attachment with virus (I love norton!)

scott@ sfmassageworks.com Mail Delivery (failure [email protected])

>>>Dont know what's up with that, I'm thinking one advertising thing maybe using Mail Delivery (failure... etc.. to get me to click a link in it???

[email protected] Mail Delivery (failure [email protected])

>>>same thing as the last....

[email protected] Mail Delivery (failure [email protected])

>>>same thing

Maybe someone's fishing through here for e-mails and added me to some Spam list... or maybe my e-mail account is just screwed up?

The mail delivery failures could be legit.Basic Yahoo(and hotmail)accounts can fill up pretty fast, and do have a history of bouncing email back for no good reason-as does AOhell.

There is a warning on the opening page of this site telling you to use caution(actually the say never)opening email from this site.

But,as you know,we do contact each others email via this sites mail function.Just keep your Norton/Macafee runing and up tp date, don't open any funny files and you should be fine.

Your email address is in your sig, so anyone who reads a post of yours has a copy of that page with your address in their browser's cache.

The current crop of viruses scan entire hard disks, including the browser's cache, looking for email addresses and then use those addresses in EITHER the "from" or "to" in emails they send out trying to replicate themselves.

That means it only takes ONE reader here with an infected PC and your address is "out there" being used by spammers/viruses/trojans/worms.

The only way to protect yourself is not to give out/publish your address, and that's not 100% sure as spammers use "randomizers" to blast email to every conceivable combination of characters at a domain like Yahoo.

I saw a study recently that said 80% of email clogging the public internet these days is either spam or virus-laden. As BGIP says, make sure your virus protection is current. It's VERY cheap insurance.

Don't open any email you are not expecting. I never open any files even from friends.

I use McAfee, which hopefully does its job. It has sent up a warning on several occassions ove the last few months.

OK

Thanks guys :)~

Always do keep up on my Norton updates/scans... and Lavasoft scans..

Just wondering why such an excessive amount lately. I don't mind handing out that e-mail addy, it's just it's been recieving a ridiculous amount of Virus filled e-mail lately. I never download anything unless I am expecting it.

I guess there may be some bots surfing through these forums snagging e-mails as well...

And I never sent e-mails to the addresses where it says "failure" or w/e
