I'll be in SLC this weekend starting on Friday and staying thru Tuesday. Can anyone give me recommendations for the hot clubs/bars for each night. I know about the private clubs - actually Kansas use to have that up until abouot 10 years ago.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not much of a bar person but I'll try to give more info. In general, most neighborhoods are fairly safe from 300 West and eastward. Businesses from 300 West to 900 West are in industrial/warehouse areas and are marginally safe. Anything West of 900 West is generally gang-related areas and you are taking a real risk venturing into these neighborhoods.

Here are my opinions on the places you've listed:

>- BOURBON STREET 372 S State St SLC UT 84111

I've NEVER heard of this being a gay bar or even gay-friendly. I've been inside several times (related to my previous job and not as a patron). The average client was 50+ years old and it appeared to be a very straight place. It's not the kind of place I'd even consider going to with straight friends because the bartenders (IMHO) were rude and seemed to ignore people that weren't "regulars". However, it is in a safe neighborhood and is located within one block of a cruisy (hustler) hang-out (one of our state senators was arrested there for soliciting a boy).

>- BRICKS CLUB 579 W 200 South 328-0255 straight/gay

This is really kind of a mixed bag. At times it is very gay and other times it's very straight. There have been a couple of instances where fights have broken out (and even a shooting) when gays showed up on the wrong night. It tends to be for a younger crowd and appeals to skaters, Goths, tattoo/piercing crowd, etc.

>- CLUB 161 161 S Pueblo St (1440 West) SLC Men's private club

Very new club. It's in a known gang area and I personally would NOT go there after dark. I've also heard that it's not open all evenings.

>- CLUB NAKED 326 S West Temple

I believe this is only gay 1 or 2 nights per week.

>- CLUB TRI-ANGLES A private club for members 251 West 900 South

A small place in a "questionable" neighborhood. Just around the corner from a straight biker bar/strip club.

>- MoDiggity's Sports bar for women

>- PAPER MOON Mostly women, but everyone welcome.

No info or opinion.

>- RADIO CITY LOUNGE 147 S State St. 532-9327

Claims to be the oldest, continuous gay bar West of the Mississippi. It has been the target of numerous police raids over the past 40+ years for drugs, drunken fights, lewd behavior, etc. Last time I was there I would have sworn it hadn't been cleaned in the last 25 years. I honestly don't know how it passes the health inspections.

>- THE TRAPP AND THE TRAPP DOOR 102 South 600 West

Very popular places. Definitely has a Levi/Western flavor.

>- TODD'S BAR AND GRILL 1051 S 300 West SLC

This place has been a popular straight place for years and I understand it's very nice. I "think" it's only gay one night per week so be sure to check so you don't show up on the right night.

>- VORTEX 404 S West Temple A private club.

Never heard of this place.

>- ZIPPERZ 155 W 200 South Salt Lake City UT 84101

Also never heard of this place. But, according to the address, it is next door to Squatters (a very popular micro brewery). There is a lot of renovation going on in this area so, if it is a gay place, it could have some definite potential.

Hmmmm .... so even if it isn't gay you might bump into a straight guy coming from a brewery? You know what they say about straight guys and a six-pack. }(
