Any one out there know the status of the new Cirque show that is replacing EFX at MGM Grand. Was supposed to be opening in June I thought but haven't seen any announcements on their WEB page. I'll be in town in August and was hoping to check it out along with Zumanity.

EFX kind of crashed & burned after Michael Crawford left the show~

Lots of news on the Cirque front:

They've finally added back the homo-aspect to Zumanity after months of speculation without the original 'kiss' that got everyone's panties in a wad. It looks pretty good and the new performers in the roles are QUITE nice to lay eyes on (amongst other body parts).

Negotiations at Bally's for an aqua-based show, directed by water-woman Esther Williams has been scrapped. 'Aquaria' will be replaced in 2005 by a new Cirque show, yet to be named or created.

Drag hostess for Zumanity, Joey Arias, has refused to sign a renewal that would keep him in the show for another year. Producers are on the hunt for another drag MC for the show. Here's hoping Arias reconsiders, as his naughty humor, spot-on Ella Fitzgerald-channeling and banter with the audience is one of the highlights of the show...

Later this summer, MGM will debut a $180mil production (the most costly stage production EVER) by Cirque tenatively titled 'X' which will feature suspended seating for the audience, with the performers entering the stage from underneath the crowd. This will give audiences a true 360 degree view of everything happening. News sources are describing it as a 'Firey, teched-up version of 'O'.

The Mirage is also tinkering with replacing the former Sigfried & Roy Theatre with a Cirque show. Supposedly, this show will mesh Cirque performers with legendary musicians and their music. Interesting.

Steve Wynn's Wynn Resort (scheduled to open April 2005) is also bringing in a new Cirque show. Along with the Broadway company of 'Avenue Q,' Wynn is keeping details mum with minimal press-releases. Surely it will be an over-the-top, my dick's-bigger-than-your-dick extravaganza. My kinda show :)

In any event, in the next few years Cirque will totally saturate Vegas with their productions. Along with new musicals opening (We Will Rock You @ Paris and Saturday Night Fever @ Aladdin) and future musicals on the way (Hairspray, Phantom of the Opera, Ave Q), it seems that there will be no shortage of money to spend when it comes to entertaining in Sin City.

Reporting as Always,

Gee, from all the "gossip" from all the "rags" I've read, it's my understanding that David would make Mr. Ed blush in shame! :)

"I think I love you"

"So what are you afraid of?"
