Bumping this up in case anyone hasn't seen it and would like to email their Congresspersons (people?). We can still make an impact, boys (hey, if the world is divided up into boys and girls, then we're boys).

"As I stated at the time, I KNEW, that in the case of my "esteemed" Republican senators from Virginia, that it would be a TOTAL waste of time and effort! I haven't yet received a response from Senator Warner, but I'm fairly sure it will ECHO Senator Allen's response. Any one else gotten a reply yet? I'm posting my response below:

"Thank you for contacting me regarding the issue of marriage and a

Federal Marriage Amendment. I appreciate your concerns and want my

position to be very clear.

As a United States Senator, I will support and protect the

traditional, common sense definition of marriage in law as only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. While it was my hope that the existing Defense of Marriage Act could accomplish this goal, I believe that recent events and future court decisions indicate that a constitutional amendment is needed to protect the rights of the people in the States to define the institution of marriage.

To that end, I will vote for a Marriage Amendment to the U.S.

Constitution when the Senate considers one in July.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me. If you would like

to receive an e-mail newsletter about my initiatives to improve America, please sign up on my website (http://allen.senate.gov). It is an honor to serve you in the United States Senate, and I look forward to working with you to make Virginia and America a better place to live, learn, work and raise a family.

With warm regards, I remain

Sincerely,

Senator George Allen

Yeah, as I SAID, a TOTAL WASTE OF EFFORT!, as I'm sure my response below is:

"Thank YOU for your civil reply, as I couldn't expect any more than such from a Virginia gentleman such as yourself!

I respect your honest opinion, and I hope you, in turn will respect my honest opinion in return!

I was BORN in Virginia, and am a descendent of native Virginians from the early 17th century! I KNOW that you and your fellow Republican, John Warner can not make those claims! I AM ASHAMED to have both YOU and John Warner, speaking for ME! as a voice in state politics, not to mention federal politics!

I did not vote for you to be my governor, and I sure did not vote for you to be my senator! Why? Because I HATE your HATRED towards me and my fellow gay Virginia citizens! I work, I pay taxes, and I LOVE Virginia more than your outsider, narrow minded partisanship COULD EVER comprehend!

I HANG my head in SHAME to have you as one of my voices in Congress, that is SUPPOSED to be the VOICE of freedom!"

A constitutional amendment that takes away people's rights is needed to protect the rights of the people? The man's a nutcase.

Your response was not a total waste. I hope others wrote back to him with the same passion.

Time for a Bump...the debate has begun in the Senate. The swing Senators that the Conservatives are targeting are from:

Indiana

Ohio

Alaska

Louisiana

Nebraska

Arkansas

North & South Dakota

Passage of the amendment is to be urged in many Sunday Church Sermons this weekend. If you are from any of the Target states or know someone who is... NOW is the time to act. The Senators will get many messages to support the amendment Monday after the Sunday Sermons.
