Can we make legit analogies between a socially accepted profession or craft and a marginalized, stigmatized, persecuted by law enforcement one?

The consumer deserves honesty, be it being sold on a new kitchen or paying for companionship don't you agree?

I'd be very upset if my image was being used in any way, shape, or form without my consent, especially for escorting; imagine how that would feel if you didn't even escort

That is the nail on the head! Imagine seeing your own pictures used in an escort or masseur ad. It's totally dishonest to the person whose picture it really is.

Of course I agree. But being a client with flexibility some times on the real pics issue has allowed me to meet and enjoy hot, adorable guys.

Point well made, Vin, it would be quite infuriating, and if the guy was either in the business or a client looking it would feel like he had been personally violated. If they were stock photos, less so. I doubt anyone would remotely expect to use your pics without being recognised immediately as a fake. That we have continual discussions about whether one profile or another is using copied photos indicates that not everyone is readily recognisable without their face (or some tattoo) being visible. Does it make it OK? No.

Good case in point. In the Seattle area (and I believe also in SF) there is a young man advertising on Rentmen as CoolKid. He used to advertise as Discoboy. It is the same young guy. The pictures in the ad under his Discoboy persona were totally fake. The pictures for CoolKid are different, but also fake. Word on the street is that the actual escort is young and attractive and satisfactory, but for some reason he uses other people's pictures in his ads. Rentmen just published a first review for CoolKid which really calls him out on this practice (his previous one review for Discoboy was more positive, but that reviewer also questioned the pictures.) There is also a Thai escort who is reported to be hot, but uses fake pics. No, I do not think this practice is OK.

I hired a guy a couple of times that included some fake pics as well as his own in his ad. One of the fake pics he used belonged to a guy from some reality tv show. The guy I hired (who, BTW, was hot looking in his own right) had no idea that pics could be searched on (he was hot looking, but not the sharpest tack in the box). I plan on seeing him again when he gets out of jail.

Ah, not legit analogies. WTF? Because the escorting is illegal, that makes it OK to use fraudulent pictures? I realize that many escorts lie, especially about their age, but I don't like it. And I especially don't want to drive out someplace all hot and bothered, just to find out I'm dealing with a liar. I must be lucky I've only had to deal with a fake picture once. Luckily, it was an in-call, so I advised the guy not to be such a liar and turned around. The escort can't help it if sometimes his craft is illegal. But lying is a choice.

I give you an anecdotal example. One of my favorite regulars, when he was starting to escort three years ago, published his ad with other guy's pics. When we first met I took him because he was very hot anyway. His service was excellent. After sex, I tell him that he should stop using fake pics, and he argued privacy issues. He has now his real pics in his profile, but he did not make that decision until he took escorting more seriously.

This is just an example, but I think it illustrates well that this issue does involves honesty, but it is much more complicated than just that. As usual, it is easy to judge others, but if you do want a better undertanding of human motivation, you need to be more sympathetic and open minded.

It's a super shitty practice, highly disengenous, and what most probably never think about is the person who's photo is being used ( I'd be very upset if my image was being used in any way, shape, or form without my consent, especially for escorting; imagine how that would feel if you didn't even escort ) I can understand if an escort wants conceal his true identity but at least he should use an image that is actually him ( cropping the head is very easy, and removing a tattoo is just a few clicks and rubs )

I suspect most times it's not to conceal an identity but rather to lure in potential clients by using images with bodies better than the individual running the ad.

I am sure many escorts have ran into an ad using said escorts pictures :D It also no doubt lowers an escorts rep/cred when potential clients have to sit back and wonder if this is THE escort or one of THOSE.

I do get a laugh over being sent a flirt/message from someone who was using my pictures.. flattered.. irritated.. and makes sense when I flirt with someone and get a response back.. "blocked again fucking faker".. its like... WTF?!

I agree that it's more nuanced than just dishonesty. But using someone else's photos is dishonest even if it's done to protect privacy, save time and money, or as a bait and switch for someone who's not intrinsically attractive enough to make enough appointments to sustain himself but who is actually good at what he does. It's dishonest even if the guy resembles the photos. Using the photo in an ad is an assertion that the person in the photo is the person placing the ad and providing the service when it's not.

If a guy (or gal) lands more appointments using this bait-and-switch than without it, it's economically rational for them to continue. It may also be used by women as a form of personal security and by either to stay under the radar of law enforcement.

Te insistence that everyone be hotter than hot may also be driving some of this. I seem to be in the minority, but I believe reasonably good looks, a good attitude and personality, social skills, and (ahem) skill at consensual adult activities are all more important to a good encounter than being a model-perfect gym bunny.

In the end, every potential client has to decide for themselves how to handle these situations. But keep in mind it's possible client expectations are only making it worse.

@AdamSmith knows errrythang

To paraphrase from the skit the new professional employees at the law firm where I worked put on for entertainment at the holiday party my first year there, "Adam Smith knows everything there is to know and I know everything else." I'm sure it says something about me that I considered that the funniest line in the skit. It was especially funny because I was friends with the associate (now partner) who was dissed.

Where has anyone made such an analogy? But your point about using fake pics to fly below the radar is a valid one. Nevertheless, I'm with Vin. Using fake pics may address real concerns, but it is disingenuous, with potential adverse consequences for the person whose pics are used. Essentially, what the escort who uses fake pics is saying is his safety, privacy, or whatever is more important than that of the person whose pics he uses. If an escort needs privacy, or his clients require complete discretion, don't use face pics.
