Airbus is at it again. The aircraft manufacturer has filed yet another unusual patent for passenger seating.

The patent details several designs of stacked seating, reminiscent of bunk-beds, wherein one row of seats is perched on top of the other in order to optimize space in transport cabins of planes, buses and trains.

"In modern means of transport, in particular in aircraft, it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin," Airbus wrote in the filed patent.

Well they seem to think that it works in India...

India is its own case. Somebody once said of Gandhi: He had a physique that could only be achieved through centuries of starvation.

excuse me... Americans don't take the train, it's too European...

We drive, take the train, Segway or a scooter, but we never walk.

I kind of like the design. As someone who has a habit of getting either red eye or 6 am flights it would be swell to have a seat that lays flat or goesback further than what is available now, so that I can maybe get a couple hrs sleep. The only airline that I can think of that flies out of O'hare that has what I want would be Virgin America but they only go to LA and SF.

For me, any lie flat seat--even a set of 3 tiny coach seats--is a huge improvement over even the best non-flat seat. That said, nothing beats American's transcontinental F.

Mr. Fluff, I must say you look quite dapper in your royal purple blankie.

Why can't they put these things on Amtrak??? (Or put back berths.)

It's like a trying to sleep on a cement tomb on one of those damned trains.

Theres sleeper compartments on long haul trips.

Hugs,

Greg
