It looks like the movie version is finally going to get off the ground. I'm still a big fan of Bewitched and Elizabeth Montgomery. Hard to believe that it's been nearly a decade since she died.

"Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine will star in the movie version of Bewitched"

"Variety says they are in talks to join Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell in the adaptation of the 1960s TV series.

MacLaine would play Endora, meddling mother to witch Samantha while Caine would play Samantha's father, Maurice.

Shooting on the Columbia Pictures project is due to start this summer"

I used to watch this series every week. I'm looking froward to the movie. Hopefully they won't destroy the vibe of the original show.

Wouldn't it be great if they could get Barbra as Gladys Kravitz, Liza as Aunt Clara, Sean Hayes (Jack on "Will and Grace") as Uncle Arthur and Whoopi Goldberg as Doctor Bombay? :+

My vote for Endora was Judy Dench and for Darren was Jim Carrey (who kind of looks like him)--I love Nicole in the role but HATE Will Farrell--they will destroy the vibe. Blu

Jeff,

Thanks for the GREAT news! I loved the show and I hope they do a great job with the movie.

HOWEVER, I am so TIRED of seeing Nicole Kidman. She is all over the place! I don't care HOW GOOD her voice coaches are her accent always sneaks out when she is playing a North American character.

If Kate Mulgrew was a bit younger she would be perfect for the role, IMHO. I also think the chick that plays Karen on Will and Grace (with blond hair of course) would be good as well.

Can I tell you how much I dispise Will"one character"Ferral? He has ruined every movie he has been in-why does he get so much work?

I still remember my joy upon hearing that my favorite sit-com GREEN ACRES was to be made into a film with Bette Midler-never made it to productionx(

You're right about bad casting with Will Farrell -- and that Jim Carrey would be perfect. I loved that show as a kid and will see the movie if Will's not actually in it.

PERHAPS, because not only is she one of the world's most beautiful women, but also a GREAT actress who deserves more Oscars than she has garnered (just my opinion)??? Or maybe you would prefer the "old Nicole" who had to subjugate her talent to her dominating, less talented ex-husband, Tom Cruise (just one of those gay icons)?

Maybe you see her all over the "place" because that is what happens when you win an Oscar? Bada Bing!

Just me, but I LOVE Nicole Kidman, as imo, she is a very good actress, a very BEAUTIFUL woman, and I personally LOVE her in everything I have EVER seen her in, and I don't know why she would commit to being in a movie remake of a tv series unless that commitment was made prior to receiving her much belated, much deserved accolades! :)

Last year I'd seen Nicole on some show and she said that she and Jim Carrey had gotten together to discuss the Bewitched movie with him in the role of Darrin. I think he would have been a great choice. Mike Myers was also considered for the role. I'm not thrilled with the idea of Will Ferrell as Darrin, can't imagine him having much chemistry with Nicole.

Apparently, Nora Ephron is on board as both screenwriter and director.

Perhaps Betty White as Aunt Clara? The original Dr. Bombay is still alive and acting, give him a job!

I do hope they do justice to the TV show. If they can capture the "magic" of the first 5 seasons, it should be a hit.:-)

I feel her acting to be pedantic at best. My dog can act her way out of a brown paper bag better than Nicole can deliver a swarthy line about depression.

She is also emaciated and needs to eat a steak.

I DO agree Tom has no talent. He accomplished all he did because of his looks. Well, beauty fades and dumb is forever.

Of course, this is just my little opinion Mr. V :)

RE: Nicole Kidman

The most imoprtant question is: Can Nicole Kidman wiggle her nose just so?

And why can't I play Aunt Clara? After all, in many ways she is my role model!

Well, they pay thousands on her dialect coach so I am sure they will get her a cartilage mobility coach.

Role model? Are you a magic-disabled witch like she is?

Whoopie as Mrs Cravitz with that father from the Fresh Prince of Belair as Mr Cravtiz--who is he? Rose from the Golden Girls (what is her real name?) as Aunt Clara? Cannot think of a good Dr Bombay--- Danny Devito? Naw does not seem right--- Mike Meyers? Maybe? --- Blu

Rick, you are a man of many talents! Not only one of the world's most lovely male prostitutes, but also a first-rate casting director! Your choices are sublime!!! But, couldn't I please, pretty please, play Aunt Clara? I've had an affinity for her since I was 7 years old.

(Let us all pray to whatever Deity we may think might exist that the Powers That Be in Hollywood don't decide that the Bewitched movie needs a cheesy rap song for the credits, like they did with The Addams Family!)

Well, I personally, don't understand all the castigations about Will Ferrell as Darrin, as I think he just "might" do a credible job, as he is a prolific comedic actor (who else could play a 6'3" elf?) and I FAIL to see where Jim Carrey would be any better, unless you are looking for an actor "obviously acting a role"???

As far as RM's picks go, very interesting choices but I don't agree with his picks. I think, despite cosmetics, and the obvious gay thematics, that Sean Hays, is just a "tad" too young to play Uncle Arthur, Barbra (Streisand I assume) is way too much of a diva to play a secondary role as Gladys Kravitz, Liza Minnelli would be a "big stretch" as Aunt Clara, and Whoopi Goldberg is a black female totally opposite of the white, male original Dr. Bombay (but I have to admit that I LIKE this twist and I THINK it would fly!).

Not every character, imho, has to be played by a well-known actor/actress for this movie to be a success, so maybe a few unknowns would not be such a bad idea. If you insist on "knowns" then my pick for Uncle Arthur would be Patrick Stewart, my pick for Aunt Clara would be Glenn Close, my pick for Gladys Kravitz would be Stockard Channing, my pick for Dr. Bombay would be anyone, as he was a "minor character", but I JUST LOVE, Rick's choice of Whoopi Goldberg! :) (the creme de la creme that would be true enough to the original, but have enough "oomph" to push it over the top).

OOOPS! I forgot Larry Tate! Did anyone else mention him/make a suggestion, or has the role already been cast? How about James Brolin in this role?

Well, perhaps. I'm still in the process of self-discovery. But I am charmingly pathetic, and have a habit of walking into walls.
