I can't fathom how people don't realize that their opinion is most powerful to themselves, and most of the time irrelevant to other people.

I, for one, can fathom that very clearly. That is why when speaking of likes and dislikes one must make a point to stick to the subject that is being discussed and not make it into a judgment of the person who holds another opinion. Opinions and beliefs are basically "nothings" that we try to make into "somethings" that we can hold as TRUE and make ourselves feel right by making others wrong. We think that if we get others to have the same or similar belief as we do that the sheer number of believers will make it TRUE, even if the belief is detrimental to the good of all, and excludes certain individuals or groups. This is where proselytizing for a religion or political party gets its steam. All beliefs/opinions are nothing but a collection of thoughts clumped together, congealed, then recalled and regurgitated to keep us from seeing always with new eyes. To identify oneself with one's beliefs is a sure-fire road to misperception.

It's always amazed me how charged this is. Look at the number of posters on the gallery threads who will inevitably jump in and comment "Nice guy, but the tattoos ruin it for me", over and over again. I've got a definite preference for furry guys, but if I made a negative comment about every guy who shaved his chest, I'd be much more than a Viscount today.
