I can get to the Rentmen site. As Ricardo says, "This whole thing is about the money." Any kind of prostitution charges (unless they are across state lines) would be handled by the individual states. Of course, they were enforcing NY law so NYPD would make the arrests, along with any personnel enforcing the Federal charges. They need a good lawyer.

THIS IS A FEDERAL HIT!! .. the Feds are after the CEO and the people that were profiting MILLIONS of dollars & eveyone knows when Uncle Sam not getting their cut.. then you are a target... I believe the FEDS have been investigating them for awhile & today was the day they went in to make the bust..

THIS WHOLE THING IS ABOUT M.O.N.E.Y.

If it's REALLY about money, then they will most assuredly be going after the escorts. Have the escorts been collecting sales tax? Have the escorts been paying federal, state and local income taxes on the revenue they earn? Since they are independent contractors, have the escorts been paying into the social security trust fund? The seven big shots are small change compared to what they could get from the ten thousand rentboys themselves.

Rentmen is working normally for me.

The Rentboy website, on the other hand, seems to be dying a slow death. The pictures on ads don't appear, unless it's an ad that I opened earlier in the day. I don't know much about computers but maybe it's something to do with memory and they'll disappear as well.

I am an attorney, abeit criminal law is not my area of expertise. They call prostitution "the oldest profession" for a reason. There is very little to no chance of the government going after every single escort for tax evasion or anything related to money. This was an easy takedown and that would require too much coordination and effort.

And DickyF may be right in that the primary mistake was staying in the United States.

I think our friend, Eli Lewis, one of the defendants would be pleased to hear that he was making millions of dollars. Last time I checked in with him, making the rent was more of an issue than figure out where to spend his ill-gotten gains!

this is problematic on SO many levels!!! last time i checked, everyone who uses the site in any capacity does so through "informed" consent - is this the coming of trumpism (a/k/a fascism)?

I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey Lawkid, do you have any idea why this indictment was unsealed in Brooklyn Federal Court, which is in the Eastern District, and not in Manhattan Federal Court, which is in the Southern District? The Rentboy offices are in lower Manhattan.

Servers might have been in Brooklyn or Queens, or the money may have moved through bank branches there.

This is NOT about tax evasion. Here is the press release about the charges: http://www.justice.gov/usao-edny/pr/largest-online-male-escort-service-raided

While it's not about tax evasion, the Feds have seized $1.4M in criminal assets. I thought this practice was now banned. Maybe one last grab?

Why is Dept of Homeland Security the primary investigator? This seems a big stretch of their primary mission of catching terrorists. Police state creep if you ask me.

Interestingly, when I read the deposition of the Homeland Security agent, they specified Brooklyn based escorts along with RENTBOY.COM and DADDYSREVIEWS.COM.

Also, the deposition says that RENTBOY.COM has revenues of over $10 Million since 2010.

Why 2010? What happened in 2010 to get the Feds looking at RENTBOY.COM? George Rekers hired a escort to travel Europe handling his bags... And his RENTBOY.COM page because national news.

COINCIDENCE?

From DHS website: "the vision of homeland security is to ensure a homeland that is safe, secure, and resilient against against terrorism and other hazards." How does taking down RB relate to that? What a bunch of BS.

!!!OMG!!! !!!We are going to jail!!! Worse yet, our names and email addresses will be published and we will suffer humiliation in the fact that the world is informed that we are so old and ugly and undesirable in our manner that we had to hire men for sexual intimacy. On the "up side": Is there any hope that my "roomie" will be Mr. Draker?

I think we all can relax as I don't believe they'll go that far due to privacy laws. They can't publically reveal that sort of information.
