Well, this thread confirms my main problem with Doug (now that we're all growing beyond ad hominem attacks...), but let me first say that sometimes he makes a reasonable counter argument and has occasionally gotten me to reconsider my views... and I've admitted it.

 

However, he often does seem to argue just to be contrary, and he doesn't seem to actually listen to/consider the other side--without which debate is pointless. When he's called on the facts he may appear to respond rationally, but he actually doesn't. He'll pretend not to get the intent of posts and/or selectively quote things to fuel some ridiculous tangent, anything to distract from him loosing ground in the actual issue which he promptly (but verrry quietly) abandons.

 

That said I do think occasionally a little light (as opposed to just heat) is produced in the religion and politics forum. It is amazing and funny to me that such discussion happens in such a place, but where else is it going to happen, the corporate press?? :7
