I haven't used any escorts on RB yet but I'm seeing more "ask me" replies on there by escorts. My immediate impression it's a "yes" especially if it's about drug use and/or safe sex. I don't really understand why it's being used for rates - unless the escorts varies his fee depending on his financial need.

Although I've never dealt with a working guy on Rentboy who posts "Ask me" under rate, I've gathered, from comments hereabouts, that it is, yes, set by the menu du jour, i.e. what you want to do. But even more than that, I think it usually indicates a rate higher than the top tier -- $350. and up. Pornstar and stripper Chris Harder, for example, posts "Ask me" and then books at $350., at least as indicated by a review here.

I have found that "ask me" regarding rates can be either higher or lower than expected. I suppose an escort may have different rates depending on his personal circumstances at the time, or the cost of living in the city he is currently serving, or even perhaps depending on what he is being asked to do, all of which seems reasonable to me. Whenever I have asked, the rates have turned out to be pretty much what I would have expected--certainly in the ballpark. Escorts who routinely charge over $300 or under $200 generally state their rates in the ad. So, if the published rate is an "ask me," by all means ask.

In my experience the rate has been pretty close to the amount given here in recent reviews. Sometimes I don't bother asking and just pay the rate here (plus a bit more for a tip/cushion). No one has ever said a word so I figure I must be close.

If someone isn't reviewed I don't contact.

Much as escorts that believe that stating "donations are for time only..." is a protection against being busted for prostitution, there are escorts that believe not specifying a rate provides similar protection.

I always find it best to ask. Best way to obtain first-hand information.

It means they're open to negotiation

In a dozen years of asking when it says Ask, I've never encountered this. I ask the price, the guy states his price, I accept or decline. Very straightforward.

If I see Ask me, I ask. Pretty much the ones ive asked were pretty much in the expected price range of 200-300 an hour.. except for one guy who started at 350 and ala carte the hell out of it to 600 an hour.

While the ephemeral nature of the contact (if it was by phone) may make it more difficult to prove, it seems to me that a base rate with ala carte additions runs a greater risk of being characterized as payment for specific sex acts (and thus clearly sex for pay), making this more risky than a known hourly rate and disclaimer about payments being for time and not sex, which, if it happens, is a voluntary, freely-engaged in activity. If this was in an e-mail or text exchange, oh well! I think the guy's shot himself in the foot if it is ever questioned.

That's beside the general sleaziness and unfairness of upcharging.

Sorry but I HATE the "ask me" trend, primarily because I always fear (esp if you're actually speaking (not E/Text etc) that it will put me in a position where I'm forced to decline because I think it's too high etc and I feel cheap and stupid lol. I TOTS get that the vast majority will ALL be within reason and close to the norm, but we've all seen the occasional 450-500 Hr rate, oft from a celeb, but also occasionally from one that's makes us scratch our heads n say "Really??? for HIM???" I know alotta guys hate add-ons etc based on what the scort has to do etc, but I'm always more comfy with a listed base fee with an "and up" after it. ;)

There are 2 things in ads that make me move along to the next one: (1) "Rates: Ask me" and (2) "Cock size: Extra large" with no accompanying picture. Your idea of "extra large" might be completely different from mine!

just asking over email is simple

if you can't go through with asking a guy his rate, then maybe you shouldn't be hiring in the first place

As SAIDDDDDDD, NP asking via Email or Text, but when a scort has that combo of "ask me" AND calls only, I shy away from it. PLUS in an actual call only an AHole opens with "hi what's your rate??" You have an exchange or two how you doing where you saw his ad blah blah. To THEN to say Cya upon hearing a rate you think is too high? Makes me uncomfortable. Sooooo I avoid it. The end.

What I'm seeing more frequently is this:

Rates:

In Call: Ask me

Out Call: Ask me

Safe Sex: Ask me ( might was well say never)

Drug Use: Ask me or "you can" ( might as well say yes) If an escort doesn't mind a high client is crazy unless the escort is avoiding the legal ramifications that he himself is also a user and is avoiding drug charges and law enforcement.

Ummm... no.

I always ask the rate, if the escort wants me to set a rate I politely tell him that it is his business and it's up to him. Once I have his rate I decide yes or no. If I say no I don't want to negotiate the rate. If he says "we can talk about" I decline - bad karma (IMHO)
