Would someone who's more tech savvy than me please tell me how to make certain parts of a post here into bold face type? x(

Put at the beginning of what you want to be bold and at the end, except instead of the < > brackets that I used, use the square brackets. Be sure to include the brackets, to and use the square brackets, not some other kind. And by the magic of html your text will be bold, whether or not you are. ;-)

Simple HTML

When your browser constructs a page, it formats it according to the specifications provided along with the text. The language used for those specifications is HTML. It's basically a page-markup language.

HTML uses tags to indicate where a particular format should start and stop.

As noted above, would normally indicate the beginning of bold text and would indicate the ending of the text that should be bolded. However, the software used for this Message Board requires that you enter HTML tags with square brackets instead of angle brackets. Other than the use of square brackets, the tags entered here are identical to the normal HTML tags.

Here are a few that may be useful to you:

... start and stop bold text

... start and stop italic text

<u> </u> ... start and stop underlined text

These tags can be nested. Thus:

bold italic text appears as bold italic text

Note that the and tags are surrounded by the and tags. In other words, when combining tags, nest one set inside the other, don't overlap them. If you overlap them, the result may not display correctly in some browsers.

Another useful tag will allow you to draw a line across the page. This header rule is generated by the <hr> tag all by itself. (You don't need to add a </hr> tag.. the <hr> tag goes all by itself wherever you want the line to be:

Html can be used to produce a fair number of different effects, all using techniques very similar to the ones listed above. If you aren't familiar with it, it will quite foreign at first. But, as you can see, it's actually quite easy.

A general tip. When you see someone do something with their post that you are interested in doing, do a "reply with quote" and you will see exactly what they embedded in their post to make it happen.

I'd like to see more messages in bold type; they might be easier on the eyes. Also, it would be great if we could use a variety of fonts when typing our messages. Recently I've encountered a plethora of fonts which are on our computers; many of the fonts intrigue me, and I'd love to use them when responding.

Thanks to our message board respondee who asked the initial question regarding bold facing messages; I've learned something again!:-) :-)

RE: Simple HTML

How does one reply with quote using Outlook Express software....like you can here on the MC...quote part of the original email when replying??!!!

RE: Simple HTML

Sorry, wish I could help you on that but I don't use Outlook or Outlook Express. I'm sure there are other guys here who will be able to help you.

I've been using AOL email for years and years now, happily -- and I've never had a problem with a virus, unlike those of my friends who swear by Outlook. :-)

Thanks for responding

Got as far as here, then what am I suppose to click/unclick in the tab with plain text settings to allow me to quote part of the sender's message in my reply?
