Friends of mine who are "in the know" and self appointed aficionados of everything film, always told me how poorly cast DiCaprio was for that roll. Admittedly I'm just some guy who probably doesn't get it, but I always thought he did a remarkable job.

I've never seen that movie, for two reasons:

 

1. I already know the ship is going to sink.

2. I'm not a Celine Dion fan, and I was already tired of that song.

 

I've always thought it would be funny if someone made a Titanic movie and the ship narrowly misses the iceberg and completes its voyage to New York.
