For all you Carol Burnett fans, there's a marathon this weekend on TVLand. I've watched at least a dozen episodes. Cher is guest-starring on the one I'm watching now. Starting Monday, Carol Burnett and Friends will be on at 8pm (EST) weeknights on TVLAND.

I know--it's been a blast! :+

I managed to see two of my favorite sketches last night--the infamous Gone with the Wind parody, and Tim Conway's WWII interrogation of Lyle Waggoner using a Hitler hand puppet.

Now, if TVLand would only resume airing I Love Lucy at night, I would be even happier!

Get yourself a TiVo! What you want, when you want it and zip right through the commercials. Watch more TV in less time.

This show sure brings back some memories. For me, the best part was Tim Conway improvising to get Harvey Korman to crack up. There are a couple situations where Harvey could not stop laughing and couldn't get his lines out. Hilarious.

"Reality" TV has nothing on "filmed live before a studio audience TV".

If you saw the 1-hour "Carol Burnett and Friends" show that was on about a year ago, Burnett explained a little about that.

Every week for 11 years, they did two shows each week. One at 5:00, sort of a dry run, and the "broadcast" show for an entirely different audience later that day.

According to Burnett, Conway would do the 5:00 show verbatim, exactly following the script. That was the show to get the camera blocking and lighting right. He'd check with the director and make sure they got everything they needed, and then absolutely destroy Kormann (and everyone else) during the 2nd show.

Pam Dawber, in later years, said much the same about working with Robin Williams on "Mork & Mindy". They'd do the rehearsals to the script, but nobody had any clue what was going to come out of his mouth in front of the audience. Even "Nanu Nanu" was one of his improvs.

You just gotta admire comic genius at work!

That seems to be pretty much SOP in the TV world. People around NBC have long known that the dress rehearsal for Saturday Night Live is 99% as great as the real thing done live 90 minutes later. The dress rehearsal is taped, and occasionally bits from the dress rehearsal end up on either the live feed or the west coast feed if something goes horribly awry with the "live" show.

Yes, you do. With the passing of time, you see less and less unscripted funny stuff on TV. I really miss all the live or live-to-tape stuff that used to be on. Mostly for the bloopers and crazy things that would happen from time to time.
