Still not sure to what extent they're targeting men who hire male escorts. The sense I got from the article is that the ads were purportedly posted by women because that's where the volume is, that's who's still involved in after hours street activity, and because that's where the majority of the trafficking occurs.

That was the impression I got too (that it is arresting guys hiring women, including a well-known basketball announcer). And they seem to be trying to focus on the "human trafficking" angle as well.

"Police in the District and elsewhere have placed ads on Web sites such as Backpage and Craigslist for years"

It's a good reminder not to approach an "unknown entity" with an offer. Preferably hire someone with reviews.

I agree this seems more than a couple of steps removed from folks here. They're also apparently focusing on Craigslist/BP and, perhaps, on the less high-end clientele. (You'd think an ESPN sportscaster would spring for more than $80 bucks.) Still, good info to know and thanks to the OP for sharing it.

(And, Steven beat me to the punch :D. Another reason why I almost always hire or not on reviews.)

But Steven,

Craigslist and Backpage are cheaper! Isn't cheaper better?
