Anyone want to talk about a short vaca they've taken lately?

It's been a long time since I went on a vacation, so I decided to combine a trip I had to take anyway into a very short holiday. I was in LA 2 weeks ago enjoyed it so much that I came back to the same hotel.(I'm only an hour flight away.)

I really enjoy 1-2 night trips:More affordable, and you go home before the place gets hold. (I have other stuff to do here, but it's a 90% vacation.) This place is perfect for a shallow little fluffball like me.

On the way from LAX:

Arriving at the hotel--not in any of these cars though. I had to take a photo like a n00b. I noticed that the garden variety Ferraris get stuck in the middle of the driveway, leaving the best places for the most exotic cars.

I booked a standard room but was upgraded me to a suite with a large terrace and a pretty partial view of the hills. It's dark now, but here's a photo I found online of a terrace at the same hotel, but with a different (uninterrupted) view.

Question: How much do you tip a front desk person who gives you an upgrade, not to a very top room but to a really nice one? FWIW, he said they are nearly full tonight.

Note: I am intentionally left out the name of the hotel for privacy reasons. I doubt that anyone would bother tracking me down, but who knows?

I wouldn't tip a front desk person in cash at all....if he/she really did it as a nice gesture and not just as some PR thing because your company uses the place a lot or something, a very, very simple tangible gift like a gift card, small bit of gourmet food, or similar is more than enough.....since front desk people are typically never tipped, even a thank-you note is very nice.....I worked a front desk at a very nice place way back in college and we never got tips and very rarely received other gifts.....

I hope your vacay is going perfectly....LA is a great place and the drivers there, amazingly, are among the very best I've ever seen in the country, considering what they have to deal with....a sense of we're all in this together.....though apparently aggressive at first glance, they are all on the same page, it seems

and I do recognize the hotel!!!.....(but I'm 600 miles away - no worries!!)

BVB, there was no need to delete! I loved your response, especially the part about me as Julia Roberts walking around getting ogled. :o

I know that any self respecting homosexual would know the location, but that same self-respecting homosexual would not be interested in tracking me. I was more worried about someone eventually putting my activities here and on other sites together with other stuff online. I'll delete the photos from the cloud in a few days to prevent that. I've been getting some weird hits on my homepage and LI, so I just wanted to be safe.

Azdr, I wouldn't mind a bit if you came to the hotel and stalked me a little. You, BVB, and I could have a lot of fun!

Well my dear Kitten. I was heading to bed and for some reason decided that the post was a bit too much for some, so it didn't make the Eleven o' Clock cut. ;) However, when I saw the hotel (just love that place) I thought about you and Julia, Richard, and Rodeo Drive, and just imagined the Kitten making her way across the lobby....soooo here ya go.

I recognized the hotel right away - it IS a lovely place indeed. I always stay there when I am in LA. Nice choice!

Have you been to the Peninsula? Have yet to visit, but the TripAdviser reviewers love it, and the rooftop jacuzzi is supposed to be incredible.

I'm a big fan of outdoor jacuzzis, esp at night. I only wish the pool/jacuzzi closed later!

I was at this hotel a couple of weeks ago, the Ferrari was parked between two Bugatti's. Nice place!

The hotel should be paying the car owners for parking the cars there; what would the entrance be like without them?
