I am going to spend very soon a month for work in Santa Barbara. Everybody tells me it's a beautiful city.

It's there a scene? Escorts? Masseurs?...Or the closest is the obvious LA?

Thank you Californians!

Hey sexy,

There's not much of a scene I don't believe in SB. Most of the action is in Los Angeles. I can keep my eye out on any good Masseurs/Escorts that maybe in the area or close by there and will keep you posted.

Well my two cents is that JD is correct, there is slim pickins in SB except Oprah and the occasional celebrity sighting. As a city, weather, location, and shear beauty, there are few finer. Think Carmel, with less attitude. The college is there, lots of eye candy, so the CL or gindr hookup might be possible, if that's your thing. Myself, I've never tried it. So the good news is, SB is downright loverly...a true California gem if ever there was one.

The bad news is the commute to LA. Only two routes, the Coast or the 101 freeway. Both can get hopelessly jammed as you near the city on any given day. Just getting past the city of Ventura to the south can be frustrating, with weekends being a commuter nightmare, and it's a serious hike into WEHO or to Santa Monica, where the boys are.

My only suggestion would be to plan on a day long trip to LA, and just enjoy the drive and the sights into the city, take the coast route and take your time. Have a nice session or two or three, do a little shopping and eating, and head home in the evening when traffic has cleared....or simply do an overnighter, relax and head home the following day...good luck.

You will enjoy your time in Santa Barbara.... as mentioned it is a beautiful place to visit. And while the options to hire locally may be diminished, there are other things you should certainly check out while there. Among them are:

* The Mission - great history from the original Spanish settlement

* State Street shopping - the main drag, kind touristy, but good and good people watching

* Monticeto - absolutely charming next town over - better shopping, more upscale than even State Street in SB

* Wine tasting - whether you stay in SB and do their Urban Wine tasting with several wineries that have tasting rooms in town or head out in to the surrounding wine country, you can't go wrong. I think the Pinot Noirs are the best.

* Cocktail hour at one of the restuarants/bars in the Marina - cocktails, expensive boats, beautiful setting.... ummm, sign me up.

* Horseback riding on the beach (pvt message me for the referral to the better of the outfitters)

* Deepending on when you are there, it could be polo season - hot men, tight pants, pretty sights abound.

Anyways, lots and lots to keep you busy during your non working hours. Let me know if you want any more personal reccommendations (including restaurants and places to stay).

Best,

I was there for a few days over the holidays. It's indeed a wonderful place and the comments from bigvalboy and Bryanforservice are right on the mark.

When I was there there was exactly one listing on Rentboy, and he's still got it running: rentboy.com/Listing.aspx?lid=567632

We corresponded but I did not have time to meet him. He was prompt and friendly in his reply, so I wish I had had the chance to meet him.

There isn't much of a gay scene. The one gay bar in town appears to have closed, or maybe there is still a gay night but otherwise nothing to speak of. But there are plenty of guys in town on Grindr and Scruff. I had some very friendly chats with some guys on Scruff who were happy to share suggestions of restaurants, gyms and diversions.

The town is gorgeous and fun. I didn't want to leave.

Make sure you have lunch or dinner at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito/Santa Barbara. A magical place! Like others have said, the whole area is just marvelous, I didn't want to leave either. You could also drive up to Big Sur, which has a gay-friendly nude beach. Mostly old hippies though :(. But the drive from SB to Big Sur, and Big Sur itself are something you will never forget. Enjoy!

My parents moved down to Santa Barbara (from the Marin County Bay area) many years ago.....I visit fairly often.....I simply choose a guy from LA & make an offer to make it worth his while to drive up & hope he accepts.....or often the arrangement has been to meet about halfway....it seems most all LA guys have cars which is different from many other major cities.....whether we meet in SB or halfway, I of course spring for the hotel.....a mini vacation within my own vacation/visit.....I certainly know a few guys who I could call on regularly that I like who are already willing to make the drive.....but I like the mix of new guys together with calling on guys I've already seen.....with the right offer, lots of LA guys can be interested in being part of a plan.

I've entertained three guys from out of town in SB. They all loved it. It's a liberal town. I've been there countless times. If you're a runner, there are amazing runs up into the foothills.

FYI, Santa Barbara has Amtrak service from LA for less than $30. What is about a 2 hour drive is a three hour train ride, but you wind up right off the beach on State Street. So even if your chosen paramour doesn't have a car, you can throw him an extra $60 for transportation and make it a multi-hour appointment.

It looks like even if the escort scene is almost zero (Mark the masseur looks VERY hot and he has amazing reviews though!), I am going to have a great time there. Thank you all!
