Like all the other actors and models in LA, he's trying to control his image. RB is a lucrative gig for him, but not his career. He's decided to sacrifice escorting opportunities to preserve opportunities in his other job. That makes it hard for us to evaluate "James", and the many other guys like him. But it's understandable.

I can't answer for him. I would personally prefer even cropped "real" pictures...

I think some guys are spooked by the effectiveness of google and other reverse image searches at retrieving originals of cropped photos, and extracting uncropped thumbnails from cropped image files. I know I'm not the only hirer who has arrived at an appointment knowing more about a provider than he thought he'd disclosed...

after post #2 here, I did email him via the rentboy email system for another picture of him.....he quickly sent a decent "real-looking" face pic of a bodybuilder-looking guy.....thanked him for it and he replied with a smile emoticon.....probably a real guy, but don't know if the torso shot is him??.....

The simple solution to that is not to use photos for multiple purposes. Escorts concerned about privacy should not use a photo in their escort ad (even a cropped version) that they have also used in a social media profile or other real life profile or website. Use only pictures that are unique to the escort ad. It wouldn't be that difficult in the age of selfies or even professional photos taken for the escort ad ONLY.

As for using a picture stolen from someone else that is a reasonable likeness of the escort; yes that may protect the escort's privacy. But what about the actual owner of the photo? His privacy has been violated without his knowledge. What happens to the true owner of the photo if someone does a reverse image search and discovers the photo in an escort ad. Yes, the true owner can claim his photo was stolen and used without permission; but there will be those that might not believe him. So in protecting his own privacy the escort picture thief has potentially ruined someone elses. Not cool in my book.
