Beautiful...The Carole King Musical

Beautiful, The Carole King Musical has been on Broadway for over a year. I had wanted to see this musical and yesterday it was available at TKTS.

 

A wonderful and well acted story of the early life of Carole King and how she got her start in the music industry. Tony award winner Jessie Mueller nails it. She gives an outstanding and memorable performance as Carole King. Her husband, Gerry Goffin, played by Scott J. Campbell also does an incredible job in his role. The team of King and Goffin wrote numerous top hit songs. Many of these songs come to life as they are performed by cast members playing the roles of; The Drifters, The Shirelles, The Righteous Brothers, Neil Sedaka, Little Eva, etc...

 

Each song has a personal story behind it as King and Goffin lives/marriage move from highs to lows. You'll be impressed with the number of songs she and her husband composed.

 

The play only touches upon the early career of King. Her connection with James Taylor is never discussed.
