Gordon Jump was on Johnny Carson once and related how this stunt had actually been done by a radio station his friend worked at. His friend was involved in the stunt and was fired because of it.

Well, the wild turkey that flew out of tall grass on the side of a rural highway 17 years ago and shattered my windshield on the passenger side certainly knew how to fly. In addition, to the shattered windshield, there was an additional $1200 of damage done by that airborne fowl. Luckily, I had just turned my head to look in the side view mirror on the driver's side; or I might have also gotten an eyeful of glass as well.
