Hmmm? What can I say? What a very very sad story. It is a shame that our fellow sex workers go through this and were or are unable to get the help that they so badly need and are just tossed to the site with yesterdays leftovers. But at the same time it saddens me that more times then not we see or hear of the horror stories. Not all of us are crack heads or have been sexualy abused when we were younger. I believe that many of us chose to do this on our own accord. Speaking for myself I did research first. I read books, looked at what was being offered in my area, poked around the old egroups. I have no regrets! One of two pieces of advice I followed from my grandpa was the following: Find something that you enjoy doing and do it. It doesn't matter if your making $15,000 or $100,000 a year. What matters is that you enjoy what you are doing. And well I took his advice I am doing what I enjoy. Granted not everyone knows what I do for the obvious reasons but a good number of people do and they support me 100%. Ok maybe I'm not making any sence but I felt I had to make a comment on the article.

Hugs,

Greg

I read that too, and found it fascinating, though I doubt much if any applies to your average escort from this site it's probably not too far off for much of the SMB crowd. There are always exceptions of course.

What I kept wondering was what in the hell was the lead-time on this article? I could maybe see it four months ago, but I don't think if I added up all the hustlers and prostitutes I've seen in that area in the couple months since my interest became a passing interest it would equal the sightings that article supposedly made in what, a night or two?!? If that's a blatant lie how much is the rest worth?

I agee with you big guy. The writer obviously has a good feel for the streets though some of this is just too far off mark.

The lead in time for articles like this can be up to 3 or 4 months. I have been cruising the Hollywood area for many years and never noticed any trade in some of the areas he mentions.

And 100,000 a year - pleeeze. If you add up the rates he quotes he received and assume he did 3 tricks a day that doesn't even come close to 100,000 a year.

Plus what happened to his major record label contract? What was the band? I found a song who wrote via search but nothing more.

Interesting article though and worth a read to anyone who hasn't done so yet.

I think he was referring to his day job.

"Clearly, commerce was not the impetus for me to work the streets, as I was banking more than $100,000 a year. Yet I was still turning tricks on a regular basis, engaged in something called a re-enactment compulsion, trying to get a handle on an old wound from the reverse side."

I think this whole prostitute as a victim argument is more gender based. Women who are hypersexual are considered whores, nymphomaniacs, and sluts in our society. No matter how much they claim to like being in the business, a lot of them have self-esteem issues. And I think a lot of them were abused earlier in their lives.

With men on the other hand, sexual prowess is celebrated, and praised. Having multiple partners, especially within the gay community, is not considered abnormal behavior. It's not such a big leap to consider getting paid "very well" for something you are very good at. (I was quite active in my 20's. I went out every night looking for love, meanwhile I never said no to a good fuck. Being promiscuous was a boost to my ego, especially after living a basically celibate life until I came out at 24.)

I'm talking about successful male escorts who claim to enjoy what they do. Not runaway children/ street hustlers, or heavy drug users, or men who really can't deal with having sex with other men. I think if you did a side by side emotional analysis of these male escorts versus call girls, you would find the men more emotionally well-adjusted.

Anyway, this is just my totaly unscientific personal oppinion.
