I have next week off, and I'm thinking of putting this $400+ worth of maintenance work on my car to work ... so I might head down that way.

Any suggestions from Forum pals on:

1. Places to stay (I'm a simple guy -- clean and relatively inexpensive is fine by me. Definitely not looking for a deluxe place. Something in the middle, I might spring for that). Gay or gay-friendly place is great but not required.

2. Places to go (gay bars, bathhouses, etc.)

3. Fun activities outside the sexual arena. I love history, architecture, museums, state parks, nature.

Please don't spend too much time in your replies because I might not go or I might go elsewhere. But if you know the area and have suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

As suggested, I won't spend too much time, since the trip might not happen, but quickly these are my suggestions for the categories you mentioned.

1. Lodging...Royal Palm Resort. All gay, great poolside bar where food is served 6 am till. They are running a special for 99 dollars. Talk to Brian or Phillip.

2. Bath houses...The Club Fort Lauderdale. I have not been, so can't vouch for what kind of crowd, but it consistently wins awards every year.

3. Activities...Birch State park, right down the street from the heart of the beach area. Offers walking tours daily and gives you an idea of what the topography of Florida was like, before eveyone fucked it up.

4. ALSO...A tour of the Everglades by air boat is worth the 30 min drive from FTL. Go early morning before the crowds hit. It is a must see. I have not used this one, but they are the closest to FTL.

5. Beaches..Sebastian is a gay beach 5-6 blocks down from the Royal Palm, almost across from the W Hotel. Nice eye candy.

There is not much in the way of architecture unless you want to venture to South Beach in Miami to see the whole Deco thing. (about 45 min drive) or 4+ hours away is Key West. Worth the drive for an overnight or less than an hour by air (about $250) out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood international. I have not flown, but might be possible to fly in, do a nice tour, and fly out that evening, and save the cost of overnight lodging.

6. Bars...Alibi (on Thursday)

Rosie's (on Sunday)

Bill's and the Village Pub are both great local bars with no attitude

Royal Palm and Spa has a fantastic pool party every Sunday.."Sunday fun day"..Always a couple of hundred

guys. Nice crowd, very friendly, many of them local boys, old to young and no attitude

Weather is spectacular, and the crowds are up. Good Luck, and hope you have fun wherever you end up going.

PM if you want more details.

Hey DG,

I was in Fort Lauderdale in August.. Stayed at Pineapple Point.. Really nice place and good guys running it. I agree with bigvalboy's recommendations and would only add my two.. Pineapple Point and Brandan Steele! :)

Very interesting and informative post about Ft. L. Do any of the local "working boys" hang out at the Sunday pool party at Royal Palm?

I have seen a few, but mostly they are with friends and not working openly, however.....you would be surprised what's for sale among just the local guys. Even hanging out at the poolside bar during the week or on Friday or Saturday will net you results should you know how to "work-a-room"...

FYI...other "Sunday Fun Days" can be found at Rosie's (always completely packed) and Flip Flops Dockside Eatery (first Sunday of every month they have a Tea Dance. Very gay friendly during the week also.

Hey there; you've received some very good advice. I'm a seasoned Lauderdale traveler but usually

stay within the same area; such places as the Worthington, Royal Palm Resort (have had numerous

fun times at the bar until late at night). Bars; well you read about the Boardwalk but there are

others, Alibi I've found it not guest friendly, but that's me; Rosies always good for food but haven't

had much cruising success. Then there's Johnny's, leather bar, etc.
