This amazing play got great reviews when it played off-Broadway. Now that it's moved to the beautiful Lyceum Theater, I'm sure the raves will continue. It's based on the life of a German transvestite named Charlotte von Mahlsdorf who survied both the Nazis in WW II and the Communists when they occupied East Berlin during the Cold War. It's a one man show starring Jefferson Mays who portrays not only Charlotte but a whole host of other characters. He's really brilliant! There's also an astounding set and make sure you look for the photos in the lobby when you leave. It's an important aspect to the show. The play is in preview and opens Dec. 3rd.

After the play I went over to the Gaiety for a couple of hours and then went to Lincoln Center for an exquisite production of "Turandot". Whew! Talk about a mixed cultural bag.

"i am my own wife" was fabulous beyond belief when i saw it off broadway. the new house is not too large so it should be good as well. it deserves a tony award. my favorite "character" was when he played the tape recorder when it rewound. the whole story is amazing and no one could make it up. it is a must see.
